    1. [NMBERNAL] Looking for info on father
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/0RB.2ACI/439 Message Board Post: My name is Lyman Victor STERLING. I was born in Denver, Colorado on April 26, 1927 at the Florence Crittenton Home located at 4901 W. Colfax (a home for unwed mothers) according to my State of Colorado (unsealed) Birth Certificate. My mother’s maiden name was Anna Elizabeth (or Ann) Preslar. At the time, she was 21 years old in 1927, born in Spur, Texas, but resided in Albuquerque, New Mexico. In 1944 when I attempted to enlist in the military services, I needed a Birth Certificate. My mother’s sister (my Aunt) who was extremely close to my mother throughout their lives, kept my mother’s dying secret and wish for my Aunt to look after and protect me. In this effort, my Aunt had my “original” Birth Certificate sealed by court order and provided the Colorado Bureau of Vital Records with information regarding the “father” for the State to issue a “Corrected Birth Certificate” thus enabling me to join the service. At 17 years old this “corrected” Birth Certificate situation seemed unimportant. The statistical information provided to the State by my Aunt said the following. Father’s Name: John DeWitt Sterling, Race: W, Birthplace: Illinois, Occupation: Salesman for mining equipment. My mother had passed away in 1943. Before her death, she gave my Aunt her personal Bible for her to pass on to me later in life. In 1986, my Aunt passed away and in her belongings was my mother’s Bible. The family information written in the Bible by my mother was completely different from the information provided to the State of Colorado by my Aunt concerning my Paternal Father. My mother had written. Quote: James Norman STERLING and Marie WESTFIELD, to this union were born five children. Alice Lee STERLING, Richard Everet STERLING, Norma Lee STERLING, Eunice (or Unice) Marie STERLING, and Harold Erekley STERLING. Harold Erekley STERLING and Elizabeth Anna PRESLAR were married Feb. 20, 1926 at Albuquerque, N.Mex. (There is NO RECORD of a Marriage License haven been issued) Harold STERLING died Feb. 14, 1927 Denver, Colo. (There is NO RECORD of his death with the Bureau of Vital Statistics) Lyman Victor STERLING son of Harold and Anna STERLING, born April 26, 1927 Mary Donaldson Hospital Denver, Colorado Unquote: In 1996, I was successful getting my “original” Colorado Certificate of Birth unsealed by the courts. The information contained therein once again caused even more confusion. All info shown on the original Birth Certificate was the same as submitted by my Aunt in 1944 when “sealing” the original except for the following: Name of Child: Lyman Victor PRESLAR (NOTE: not shown as Sterling) Father’s Full Name: Albert TAYLOR Age: 24 Color: White Birthplace: Unknown Occupation: Salesman Mother’s Residence: New Mexico Today all family members are deceased except for a couple cousins my age. The information trail is colder than - you know what. If anyone in Colorado or New Mexico knows of, or has information of any of the preceding mentioned names or their descenndants, I would be extremely grateful if contacted at [email protected]

ARMSTRONG (B. 1832- MO) & MARTHA ANN HIGGINS ARMSTRONG (B. 1834 TN). Have been told that they moved to NM, first to Carlsbad, then to the Albuquerque area and may be buried there. They moved from Jack Co TX to OK, I.T. in the 1870's, then left Johnston Co., OK, IT, about 1906 & migrated to NM. Apparently, they were accompanied by some relatives, JOHN HENRY YEAGER & NANNIE BELL HIGGINS YEAGER (b. 1882 Lone Grove, Carter Co, OK; d. 7/17/1965, Carlsbad NM); & one or more cousins by the last name of COFFEY/COFFEE. Barton & Martha's children : THOMAS L. ARMSTRONG & LAURIE ARMSTRONG may have accompanied them. Any leads to ANY of these families will be greatly appreciated. There are many family members in OK & TX who would be greatful. Thanks in advance.

    3. I just wanted to take a moment to acknowledge a fellow researcher who helped me out. I live in Nashville TN, but all my searching is confined to New Mexico and Arizona Territories. Mr and Mre Joseph Phelan of Albuquerque read one of my queries and took the trouble to look for a "needle in a haystack". They also mailed it to my home within a few days of locating it. It may be a very strong lead. I'm so grateful. I hope to someday return the favor. Elizabeth McKenzie [email protected] --
