Hi, I am trying to find the ancestors/descendants of John Schitter, born to Christian Schitter and his first wife. Christian and his family lived in Dubois County, Indiana during the mid 1850's. Sometime about the 1880's or a bit later, John and his half-brother, Henry, left the county. Henry ended up in Salt Lake City and then to California. The family in Indiana had heard that John either went to Mexico, New Mexico or Arizona and farmed. Also since the surname is spelled Schitter and Schuetter, people often pronounced it Shooter, so the spelling has been changed from Schitter/Schuetter to Schudder or Shudder. John was born about 1848. John may have been married while he lived in Indiana-- I have seen a picture of a little girl with long curls, she is about 5-10, and no date is on the picture, but it looks to be over a 100 yrs old. On the back of the picture is written granddaughter of John Schitter. Also, I had heard that John may have taken a native American for a wife. But the little girl is definately not Indian or Hispanic. Can anyone help with this mystery fellow? There was James (48) & Marrgaret (50) both from Ireland. They had 3 children: James (15), Michael (13) & Margaret(11). All three children born in PA, likely Philadelphia James(15) is my grandfather. I've just started going to the Phila Free Public Library, going thru old newspapers looking for obits- only found Michael's from 1936. If any of this is of any help, please let me know, I have some more info, but don't want to bore you with things not within your search. Good Luck, and hopefully we have some common ground. Surnames: Matthews, Swain Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/0RB.2ACI/520 Message Board Post: Joab Matthews did move to New Mexico to help one of his sons who needed the warmer and drier climate. Joab, 64, was living in Grandview Precinct, Union County, New Mexico, at the time of the 1920 census, with: wife, America Inez Beaston Matthews, 51; son Joab Matthews, Jr., 27; son Benjamin W. Matthews, 27; son-in-law Jess M. Swain (widower), 41; grandson Edward R. Swain, 13; and grandson Robert Lee Swain, 9. One of Joab's and Inez's daughters married Jess M. Swain and the daughter must have died sometime after 1911 since the youngest grandson is 9 years old. It is believed through oral history that some of the family moved to Bernalillo County, NM. Seeking more information on possible ROBINSON relatives in Albuquerque. During the 1950s and early 60s my grandmother and her sister would take the bus all the way from Cleveland to Albuquerque and visit relatives. The entries "A. R. Robinson (Bertha), 2317 Campbell Rd, Albuquerque, NM" and "Mrs. B. Robinson (Bobbie) 2317 Campbell Rd N.W." are in her address book, but we aren't sure how these people were related. Can anyone suggest how to proceed? Claire in Indiana
