This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Census Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/0RB.2ACI/590.1 Message Board Post: Hello everyone, First of all, if you sent an email to me at my nmia.com account, I am still having difficulty getting into that account. I been shown how to get into the account via the Internet and will shortly reply if you sent an email. Any questions about the NMDI Projects to: [email protected], as I do not have any problems in accessing this account. Here is an update on the 1930 Census Project & Section 3 of the NMDI Project. So far, there are 11 counties of the 1930 NM Census Index have been completed. These counties are Catron, Cháves, Curry, Eddy, Guadalupe, McKinley, Roosevelt, Sandoval, Sierra, Torrance and Valencia. Most of these counties indices are listed in their Archives Files website [http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/nm/nmfiles.htm]. In the next few weeks, Cháves and Eddy will go on-line (still being proofread). When all the counties are completed, they will be combined into a searchable database. In the last update, I have asked for you to save stamps for our project as a fundraiser. I do have a bag full of stamps, but I need your help in filling up as many bags as possible. When I go to California for a check-up at the end of February (26th), I will be selling those stamps to a stamp dealer and all the money will go toward the budget. Depending on what kind of stamps are in the bag, the dealer decides on the price. So, please save those used stamps. In tearing off the stamps, please leave some paper around the stamp, not to tear or cut the stamp/s. And any kinds of stamps (foreign or USA – and duplicates too) are welcome. And please send any stamps to myself at: Sam-Quito Padilla G., P. O. Box 53184, Albuquerque, NM 87153-3184. And a BIG THANK YOU to the people whom already sent me stamps! I had mentioned about 4 volunteers whom have lost contact about their assigned counties. Well, I am happy to say that 2 of them had check-in. I have made a decision about replacing the 2 volunteers whom disappeared (adding cost to our budget, where we have no money). There were a couple of volunteers whom needed assistance in their counties; we had just enough volunteers to cover all the counties. But I do need 2 more volunteers! If any of the volunteers are having difficultly in your section, please contact me. I will find someone to help you out. We want you to enjoy this project and do not get stress out. As we put a deadline for the end of December for this project to be completed. As we already passed December and had to replace some volunteers, we have pushed the goal for the deadline of the project for end of May of 2003. A reminder to the volunteers, please check-in at the beginning of March, April and May with a report of your progress (the ones whom completed their counties do not need to report in). When the counties are being completed, Gina will be posting that specific county in their NMGenWeb Archives File website [http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/nm/nmfiles.htm]. When the project is completed, all the counties will be combined into an engine search and still leaving the specific counties in their Archives File websites. The NMDI (New Mexico Death Index) also will be in this engine search format once the Section 3 of the project is completed. Now, lets get into the budget. Sadly, we are still in the RED. The money raised to date is $996.47 (donation total $799.05 and look-up profits $197.42). The budget for the Census Project to date is $994.92 and this cover the project. But we still need to pay back the Section 3 fund of $545.80, so are in debt of $544.25 (OUCH!). You can get more information about the donations at: http://www.nmia.com/~samquito/otherprojects.html. One of our major fundraiser toward all the NMDI Projects has been DC (death certificate) look-ups. We only accept written request taken off the NMDI website, along with the fee and send them the photocopy of the DC. All the remaining money of the fees go toward the NMDI Budget. With the exception of donations from wonderful people, this other DC look-ups is the only other fundraiser to cover the budget. We have raised so far, $197.42 in profit for DC look-ups. The average profit from each DC look-up is 29¢; depending on how many DC’s are requested. The only money, which come out of the fees are for the photocopy and postage. My parents have been very supportive in my projects and donated a large number of envelopes, which I use to send out the requests. For more information on this, click on http://www.nmia.com/~samquito/nmdir.html. We do the look-ups with the films held at the Special Collection Library in Albuquerque. We been working with the library in obtaining additional films of DC’s. With our dealing with Santa Fé, we were able to get the DC’s from 1944 to 1950. But the new films will not be available to use until they get process thru the system (takes about a month or so to go thru the system). But sadly, there is no death index (which we are calling Section 3) from years 1941 to 1950 open to the public. I have recently been accused from a couple of people of profiting from these projects. This is far from the truth. I live in Belén, about 30 miles south of Albuquerque. I make the drive to Albuquerque twice weekly to do the look-ups and other research (health permitting). I do not take any money from the budget for the cost of travel or for any expenses for my volunteers or myself. All monies, which is raise or donated, goes toward the project. My main goal, along with the NMDI Projects are to provide genealogical information to people on-line for no cost. But we need donations and volunteers to get this information on-line. Our project are indices, so people can request from the proper authorities for a copy of the original document. If I wanted to profit from this project, why would I put up the money of the NMDI Projects? There was no money to get the projects started; I borrow money from my credit card to get the ball rolling. I have faith that there are ! people whom believe in the same idea as the NMDI Projects and the projects’ budget will be covered by the completion. I volunteer my time in co-coordinate the NMDI Project with a wonderful person name Gina Heffernan, whom also is my co-coordinate for the NMGenWeb Archives Files Project. I also host NMGenWeb’s county websites of Sierra, Socorro and Valencia (take a look at the NMGenWeb website at: http://www.nmgenweb.net). Along with Gina and myself, the people of NMDI Project, NMGenWeb and USGenWeb are all volunteers and all of us do not deserve any abuse from people whom have nothing else better to do. We do this job as we want to help people and not need to hear from “Internet Bullies” (a new term to describe abuse via email on the Internet). Section 3 of the NMDI Project is on-hold until we completed the Census Index Project. I have been having difficulty in getting in contact with the person I been working with in obtaining Section 3 of the NMDI. But received word that the person I been dealing with has been in an accident and been off work for some time to recover. She might be returning back to work next week or so. So, I do not have any new information on when we will be getting it or cost and etc. I will know more when the next update in mid-March. Another project, which the NMDI Project is planning on doing, is the D-CB (Delay Certificate of Birth) Index. The D-CB are certificates of people whom were born before 1919 (although the majority of the people were born before 1900, as Birth Certificates were not required by the state until 1919. People applying to work for the government or related jobs or applying for Social Security and needed proof of citizenship. That is why they are called “Delay Certificate of Birth” and needed at least two affidavits from relatives/people whom knew the person since birth. The D-CB were applied after the 1930’s (Social Security started in the 1930’s). Another project, which will not cost the project any money is to scan the DC requests and put them on the NMGenWeb Archives website. Someone had suggested in doing this last week. This would help out some researchers whom are looking for the same people. I would include the email address (or if no email address, mailing address) of the person whom requested the DC for them to connect. I am hoping that I had covered everything. Bye for now, Sam-Quito Co-Coordinator, NMDI Project http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/nm/nmdi.htm

I just found out New Mexico won't send death certificates unless the requesting party is a direct descendant. I am trying to find out information on my grandfather's cousin and her husband, so I am not related closely enough to get their death certificates. Next choice is to hopefully find obituaries. Freda Hazel Scriven WARDHAUGH was born 23 Sep 1892 in Geneva, Fillmore, Nebraska. The SSDI has her birth year as 1895. She died in Albuquerque in July 1973. I would especially like to find the date of death, burial information, and anything else the obituary might contain. Her husband, Frederick WARDHAUGH, was born 22 Mar 1889, place unknown. He died in Albuquerque in June 1973. I would like to find his obituary to find out where he was born, exact death date, burial information, parents' names, and whatever else might be there. Thanks to anyone who can do this lookup for me. _________________________________________________________________ STOP MORE SPAM with the new MSN 8 and get 2 months FREE* http://join.msn.com/?page=features/junkmail
