Good thought, Peggy. However, I neglected to mention that the letter says, "Mr. Wilson and myself were roaming through the little state of Jersey. Went up to Uncle Warren Hawk's by the way of Hope...." The letters are written to Mattie Rice whose ancestors, the Raubs, were from Blairstown. She, herself, lived in both PA and NJ before moving to Iowa, and the letter goes on to ask, "Do you remember when you and Em Haggerty came thru on horseback to see me?" (And by the way, I found an Emaline Haggerty of Paulina, NJ, marrying James Smith Carr of Stroudsburg, PA, in 1873.) So, I'm feeling pretty certain that the Hope mentioned is the Hope in Warren County. Thanks!
