McMURTRIE; READ or REED; COLEMAN; COOKE; SUTTON MARY READ born 2 June 1818 probably in Knowlton (now Blairstown) Township, Susssex (now Warren) County, New Jersey; died after 1862. Daughter of AARON READ, born 24 February 1786 and died 19 January 1861, by his second wife, MARGARET ANN COOKE, born 7 October 1813 and died 14 May 1855. They are buried in Union Brick Cemetery intersection of Union Brick and Heller Hill Roads, Blairstown Township, Warren County, New Jersey. Granddaughter of JOSEPH READ and SARAH SUTTON, and of LEVI COOKE MARY READ married ANDREW McMURTRIE on 10 February 1841 in Warren County. They may have resided in Andover, Sussex County, for part of their married life. Children: DAYTON F. McMURTRIE, died Sept. 26, 1860, Aged 1 year, 5 months and 8 days, buried Union Cemetery, Route 519, Hope Township, Warren County. MARY McMURTRIE appears in the July 1865 settlement of the estate of JOHN HETTY READ, her first cousin. John Read died 14 August 1862 intestate (without a will). He was very wealthy. He also was unmarried and had no children or surviving brothers and sisters. The surrogate court of Warren County divided the estate among his 66 surviving first cousins (both Reads (his father was JAMES READ) and Colemans (his mother was MEHITABLE COLEMAN)). Mary is listed as the wife of Andrew McMurtrie. I am interested in other children Andrew and Mary may have had, names of Andrew's parents and grandparents, also interested in contacting descendants as I have had little luck with this line.
