Which towns in Warren county came from Sussex county? The quick answer is - ALL of them. Warren county was created entirely from Sussex in 1824. If you are looking for any pre-1824 Warren county records - you need to look in Sussex county in the Hall of Records in Newton. This repository has pre-1824 land deeds, probates wills, etc for all Warren county locales. Before 1753, Sussex and Warren were part of Morris county and before that Hunterdon county. The earlier 1700's land records were filed in Burlington Co. as part of the records of West Jersey although most of these are referenced in the Sussex county deed records. The earliest Sussex county deeds for Greenwich, Oxford, Knowlton, etc. usually trace land back to the proprietor's purchase or quit claim.
