Widow applied 4 April 1839 Westchester aged about 80 and a resident of Greenburgh, NY. Soldier and widow married in the fall of 1784. Soldier died 13 Oct 1835. Widow stated soldier's brother William Cypher was at their wedding and he was living at Mt. Pleasant, NY., in 1839. Northumberland County History William Henry Sypher, subject, lived in Milton, Northumberland County, moved to Union County. The family name is of Geman origin, and the first of this name in the county came from the Rhine valley during the early 17th c., settled onthe Delaware River near what is now Chester, PA. Now Delaware County. Abraham Sypher (great-grandfather) and 5 brothers served in the Rev. War, particapted at battles of Trenton, Princeton, Brandywine, Germantonw, and Monmouth, all wintered at Valley Forge. One of his descendants, Gen. J. Hale Sypher,rose from a Private to the rank of General during the Civil war, after which he settled in the state of LA., and was sent to Congress for 4 terms. Capt. Jacob Sypher, son of Abraham, was born in Perry county, PA., but in early manhood located in White Deer township, Union County, He earned his title for service in the War of 1812.
