This is exciting and new info for us, verifying what we had speculated about. Bob Lefler Note: Dr Shippen, friend of Ben Franklin, bought the Oxford Furnace from the Axfords/Oxfords. Possibly there was a marriage in there. Bob: I have Axfords/Oxford's as a collateral family name. I found a Martha Axford that married Joseph William Shippen. He died in Oxford Furnace in 1795, she after 1801. I have 7 children for this family. Joseph's parents were William Shippen M.D. and Susannah Harrison and this line goes back to the 1600s in Yorkshire, England. Have have squat on Susanna Harrison or her line. The Shippen's came from Pennsylvania as that is where Joseph was born. My knowledge on this family line is very limited as I have not done much to follow this family since it is a collateral line. There are other researchers out there who have probably done some extensive research. Christie Trapp

    3. Dear Christie, I am not sure what you mean by collateral name. Could you please explain since I am a descendent of Susan Shippen daughter of Martha and Joseph Shippen.
