Laurence, In response to your inquiry and as promised, here is the info from "History of Freemasonry in New Jersey, 1787-1987" compiled by R.W. Edward Y. Smith, Jr., Grand Historian. The book was published in 1987 to commemorate the 200th Anniversary Celebration of the founding of the Grand Lodge of New Jersey [1786-1986]. I've excerpted from the Appendix the lodges for Hunterdon (Hun), Sussex (Sus) and Warren (War) counties from the inception of Grand Lodge through 1865 below: Lodges Warranted by the Grand Lodge of New Jersey July 3, 1787 -- November 8, 1842 Name Location Warranted Subsequent Action Trenton No. 5 Trenton, Hun 20 Dec 1787 Retained No. 5 in 1842 Unity No. 7 Kingwood, Hun 23 June 1788 Struck 1804 Harmony No. 8 Newton, Sus 23 June 1788 Struck 8 Nov 1842 Resuscitated No. 23-1853 Renumbered No. 8 in 1905 Farmers No. 14 Wantage, Sus 5 July 1796 Struck 8 Nov 1842 Federal No. 15 Amwell/Hopewell 10 Jan 1798 Surrendered 1818 Hun Olive Branch No. 16 Greenwich, Sus 9 Jan 1799 Struck 8 Nov 1842 Augusta No. 23 Frankford, Sus 13 Nov 1810 Surrendered 1824 United No. 24 Sandyston, Sus 13 Nov 1810 Struck 1821 Hiram No. 25 Flemington, Hun 21 Aug 1811 Struck 1826 Hope No. 26 Hope, Sus 12 Nov 1811 Struck 8 Nov 1842 Independence No. 29 Hackettstown9 Nov 1813 Surrendered 1817 Sus Restored 1822 Struck 8 Nov 1842 Mansfield No. 31 Mansfield, Sus 10 Nov 1814 Struck 8 Nov 1842 Resuscitated No. 36-1856 Corinthian No. 51 Johnsonburg, War 8 Nov 1825 Struck 8 Nov 1842 Warren No. 52 Belvidere, War 14 Nov 1826 Struck 8 Nov 1842 Resuscitated No. 13-1849 Lebanon No. 54 New Hampton, Hun 14 Nov 1826 Renumbered No. 6 in 1842 Mt. On the GL website, there was a contact listed for 'genealogical' inquiries, but I see that has been removed. I would probably contact the general email [gloffice@njmasonic.org] with your inquiry or contact the Grand Secretary: Grand Secretary M.W. Raymond P. Michelle, What kind of information do they have to share from the "History of Freemasonry in New Jersey"? All of my grandfathers and Great grandfathers were masons. They have the insignia on their tombstones. I don't know what that means, if anything though. We have been stumped with a 4th Great Grandfather and his sons were masons I believe. Would there be any info in there that may help us locate him?
