This is probably going to sound like a silly request for info but what the heck ... nothing ventured, nothing gained. I have been looking for the parents of one Abraham LAKE (1796 Hunterdon Co, NJ - 1874 Susquehanna Co, PA) for ages. I haven't found anything concrete but I believe Abraham is the illegitimate son of John C LAKE (1776 Hunterdon Co - 1854 Hunterdon Co). (I believe this for various reasons. For those interested see http://mlake.net/lake/NewJersey/FatherOfAbrahamLake.txt ) John C LAKE married Abigail CASE/KASE/KAES after 1800. Abigail was born in 1786 and would have been too young to be the mother of Abraham. Abraham LAKE married Susan GARRISON in about 1818 in Hunterdon Co. Abraham and his family lived in Warren Co from about 1824 to 1858, specifically Hainesburg from at least 1840 until they moved to Susquehanna Co in 1858. For a number of years Abraham owned a hotel in Hainesburg. Two of his children who both died young are buried in the Hainesburg Cemetery. The remainder of Abraham's children moved to Susquehanna Co with Abraham except for Elizabeth. Elizabeth was married to Jacob J BECK and had her own family by 1858. Her and her family remained in Hainesburg. At the time of the 1840 census there was an elderly female residing with Abraham and his family in Hainesburg. The mother of Abraham's spouse, Dinah (ROBINS) GARRISON, was living about 2 miles south of Bloomsbury at the time. I have never found any reference to John C LAKE having a son named Abraham so I believe Abraham was raised by his mother. I'm going to make a couple of assumptions (I know - I'm grasping at straws) ... (1) the elderly female living with Abraham in 1840 was his mother and (2) the name of Abraham's mother was Elizabeth (Abraham's firstborn was named Elizabeth). Elizabeth (Abraham's mother) would have been born between 1775 and 1780, probably in Hunterdon Co. She would have died sometime between 17 Sep 1840 and 27 Jul 1850 in Warren Co. So, my silly request for info is ... does anyone know of any Elizabeth meeting the above birth and death date requisites with a son named Abraham? I've checked Hainesburg Cemetery and there's no candidate buried there which I can see. It could be that Elizabeth married after Abraham was born and she was buried with her husband. I've looked for possible wills and have found nothing. Maybe there was an obit or death notice published in the local newspaper when Elizabeth died? I'm also open to any suggestions anyone might have to offer. Thanks for your indulgence. -- Marshall Lake -- mlake@mlake.net -- http://mlake.net
