    1. Theodore Paul Mansion
    2. While I was reading the History of Warren County I came across something about the Theodore Paul mansion, northeast corner of Market and water Streets, Belevedere. Built prior to 1800 by Thomas Paul who came there 1792. The brother of my great grandfather,Jacob Cunningham/Baylor was Theodore Paul Cunningham/Baylor and I am wondering if his name Theodore Paul came from the name of this mansion. We can account for most of the first names being handed down but never could figure out where Theodore or Paul originated. Maybe my great great grandmother worked there. Does this house still stand? 3. True!!- Their census is not as good as Heritage Quest or Family History which are both free. Much of their other pompusly worded offering is bogus-filler material for an unexperience researcher. And they have made other serious mistakes which they fail to correct or be responsible for in any way. All genealogy info is on a free alternative or through an established/traditional organization/site. 3. I am trying to find information showing the birth and death dates of Elizabeth (Kirkpatrick) Predmore, Newman, daughter of Capt. John and Lydia (Lewis) Kirkpatrick. I believe she was born in 1780 in Frelinghuysen, Sussex, NJ and may have died in Ohio. She may be mentioned in Family Records: or Genealogies of the First Settlers of Passaic Valley above Chatham, N.J. By John Little; Feltsville, N.J.; 1851 or Somerset County Historical Quarterly, N.J. Edited by A. Van Doren Honeyman. Vol. III contains an article on the Kirkpatricks by Rev. Oscar M. Voorhees; and Vol. V, an article on The Kirkpatricks in Line of Royalty, by A. V. D. Honeyman. I do not have access to these books. Does anyone? Rosalie

    1. BRASS CASTLE.
    2. I have not made a lot of progress in my CUNNINGHAM/BAYLER search but I found someone {and something} of interest in the ancestry.com WW2 records. This BAYLOR was born in Brass Castle, Warren County. I had never heard of this small town so I looked it up. It is quite near Washington NJ and the population in 2000 was 1,507--732 male and 775 female--mostly of German descent. This might be one of the places my family lived. JUDY

    1. Williams family
    2. Linda Dabulewicz
    3. Hello I am new to this board. I have been frequenting the Sussex county board on the trail of Henry M Williams and his family . I did manage to locate him on the 1860 census in Stoneyton, Sussex County, but his parentage remained a mystery until I dropped by the Warren County Genweb site last night. I believe I have found my Henry M Williams ,who I knew was a Cooper by trade, living with William J Williams who was also a Cooper, in Hardwick, Warren County , NJ in 1850. Now I need to verify somehow they are related. I believe my Henry was married at least twice to two different women by the name of Julia. The first was Julia Hannas or Hanners and the second was Julia Mc Collum from Montrose , Pa. I need to verify this because I won't know who was my great grandfather 's mother until I figure it out. I also am on the trail of the Ayers family from Warren County. I am especially searching for Robert Triller Ayres who married Sarah Harriet Rice on Sept 30 , 1841 in Warren County. I believe Roberts father was John Ayers and his mother was Sarah Shafer. Sarah's parents may have been Jacob Rice and Nancy Hazen. I have not been able to document this yet since I only recently found this information on line. I am looking forward to getting some research tips for this county and perhaps connecting with someone who is also researching these families. Linda

    3. Have you checked for a newspaper account? Or, at least an obituary that would nail down the exact date of death? Use the Easton Express web site to search for the date of an obit, then write to them for a copy. http://www.eastonpl.org/obituary_index.htm I think in that time period, it might not have been reported as a suicide in the newspaper (by contrast, I have an 1878 account that is luridly detailed for one guy in my database who hung himself in his barn on Christmas eve) Once you have a date, you could write to Trenton for a death certificate. Ordinarily they cover up the "cause of death" if it's something like suicide, but in one case I "lucked" out where they didn't and I found that another person - in the same time period as you're searching - walked in front of a train. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jack O'Connor" <seanroconnor@hotmail.com> To: <NJWARREN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, May 25, 2006 5:54 PM Subject: [NJWARREN] A mystery to me > > Julius Kielawa committed suicide in his sisters (Marianna Kielawa > Woroniec) home around 1948 - 1952 in Alpha, NJ and was buired in the > Potters Field which may now be a housing development. > > Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can untangle this mess? > > Help is desperatley need!! > > Thanks > > Jack > > > > ==== NJWARREN Mailing List ==== > You can contact the listowner at: Judy@BirdGenealogy.org > > ============================== > Find your ancestors in the Birth, Marriage and Death Records. > New content added every business day. 1. Update on A1390, NJ Vital Records Access Bill (long)
    2. Joan M Lowry
    3. There has been activity in the NJ Assembly on the vital records access bill, A1390. On Monday, 5/22, the bill passed the State Assembly with Amendments from the floor. The gist of the matter is that they made the changes we all asked to have included! The bill, as passed, essentially says that the State Registrar can supply a "certification" [also known as an "informational copy", rather than a "certified copy"] of any vital record "after 80 years have elapsed in the case of birth records and 50 years have elapsed in the case of marriage records and 40 years have elapsed in the case of death records." This may also apply, by extension, to vital records offices at the local level. However, I am not a lawyer (or a legislator <g>) and so can't say this for sure! This is the text that we had asked them to add so that we can still access the majority of vital records. The years we chose are the same years that the Dept of Health was already using as their "genealogical records", which we believed would make the change easier to accept. In addition, they did take out the clause that said "An Applicant shall be required to ... not transfer, sell, share, reproduce or otherwise disclose the information to another party." So, we can legitimately go about our genealogy "business" and share the information with family members, etc. They left in the part that said the applicant has to use the information for the purposes they say on the application and maintain the information in a secure manner. However, I don't think this poses a problem for genealogical purposes. Genealogy is an accepted reason to request a record and don't we all want to keep our hard-won vital records in a safe place? There is still a bit of a problem with some language in the bill and this needs to be addressed in the Senate. The bill, as worded, says that "Vital records shall not be deemed to be a public or government record ..." The problem with this is that they seem to be trying to have it both ways - if they aren't a government record, let alone a public record, then how is it that the government is creating them, maintaining them, and limiting (or providing) access to them? The Senate will need to fix that! At any rate - the bill, as passed, is better than it was to start with - and I think we are no worse off than we were before! It can still be a better bill and we will find out how to proceed to ask the Senate to improve their version of the bill. If the Senate can pass a better version, then it goes back to the Assembly for another round. I think overall "Round One" goes to genealogists everywhere and we greatly appreciate all your efforts and contacts and concerns. We will keep the lists informed as we move into "Round Two" (the Senate version.) We hope that you will be willing to keep working with us on this issue to keep open access to NJ vital records. Thanks to one and all for your help and support in this! Joan M. Lowry, President Genealogical Society of New Jersey mailto:membership@gsnj.org website: www.gsnj.org

    1. request for birth record from Franklin Township
    2. This is what I received from Trenton regarding birth record for warren County for 1873-74: "Franklin Township did not report its births to the state for the 1873-1874 fiscal year". So, my question is: where are these records? Wouldn't you know--this is the exact time period I need! Wish they had told me before i sent in my money. I asked twice before and was never give this answer, only "nothing found". I thank the person who took the time to write this on the form--at least now I know that there is a possibility the record is out there somewhere. So, anyway, if sks could tell me where these records could be it would be greatly appreciated! JUDY
