Sally (aka Sarah) Ann Decker (my great great grandparents). I have most of the history now, just seeking strays and found this Mary VanKirk married to Benjamin Taylor who could be sister of James VK born 1781, his parents supposedly are James VK and Jane House/Hanse, so I post hoping to find the strays I find & their descendants. I am posting the bios I run across so they will be archived for others who may want this inf. in the future. 3. Hello researchers who may have family who migrated to MI. Here is another example of the Michigan Biographies online from U of MI in Ann Arbor. I typed in the search engine "Warren County, New Jersey" and came up with 24 records with over 100 mentions. Here is the site again, but if you have troubles and want me to do a search for your NJ family/ancestor who went to MI I am willing to check for you. Marilyn http://www.hti.umich.edu/m/micounty/ Title: History of St. Joseph County, Michigan; Author: Cutler, H. G. ed. (Harry Gardner), b. 1856. Collection: Michigan County Histories George A. B. Cooke is a scion of a family whose name has been identified with the annals of American history from the early colonial epoch, and the family was early founded in the state of New Jersey, being of stanch English lineage. Mr. Cooke was born at Belvidere, Warren county, New Jersey, on the 8th of February, 1842, and is a son of Colonel Joseph and Sarah A. (Bowman) Cooke, the former of whom was born on a farm near Hope, Warren county, New Jersey, on the 21st of June, 1812, and the latter was born at Mifflinville, Columbia county, Pennsylvania, on the 9th of November, 1816. William Cooke, father of Joseph, was likewise a native of Warren county, New Jersey, and was a son of Consider Cooke, who was a son of Elisha Cooke. The latter was a native of Massachusetts and was a son of William Cooke, who was a son of Jacob Cooke (2). The latter's father, Jacob Cooke (1), was a son of Francis Cooke, who was the founder of the family in America, whither he came with other of t! he historic Puritan band on the "Mayflower." His wife and children later joined him in the new world, and they made the voyage on the ship "Ann," in 1623. The family home was established in the Plymouth colony, and there both Jacob (1) and his son Jacob died. The latter's son William, died at Kingston, Massachusetts. Elisha Cooke, son of William, eventually emigrated from New England to New Jersey and settled in what is now the county of Warren. He became one of the substantial farmers of that county, where he continued to maintain his home until his death, which occurred in 1799. He was the father of eighteen children, nearly all of whom attained to years of maturity. Consider Cooke, son of Elisha, was born on the 4th of February, 1745, and he married Sarah Bell. He continued to be identified with agricultural pursuits in Warren county, New Jersey until his death. His son William likewise gave his allegiance throughout his active career to the great basic industry of agric! ulture, and his entire life was passed in Warren county, where, like h is father, he was an honored and influential citizen of sterling character. He married Margatet McMurtrie, who was born in Warren county, in 1779, and who was a daughter of Captain John McMurtrie, a valiant soldier and officer of the Continental line in the war of the Revolution. Captain McMurtrie served as first judge of the court of Sussex county, New Jersey, after the close of the war and was a prominent figure in the public affairs of his section of the state. Mrs. Margaret (McMurtrie) Cooke continued to reside in her native county until she was summoned to eternal rest.

    2. Hi Marilyn I don't have any information on this Mary VanKirk but perhaps the following reference might help you. In the VanSciver Genealogy by Charlotte VanSciver Miloszar, the author references : The Genealogical Magazine of New Jersey Volume XLI Number 2 Whole Number 158 May 1966 The Van Kirk Family by Wilson V. Ledley Mrs Miloszar was mainly interested in the early Bucks County line that married into the Burlington County VanSciver family. There is nothing about your Mary in what is included in the VanSciver book but perhaps there mighty be helpful information in the article. Kathy Karn

    1. Mother of Abraham LAKE = Elizabeth ?
    2. Marshall Lake
    3. This is probably going to sound like a silly request for info but what the heck ... nothing ventured, nothing gained. I have been looking for the parents of one Abraham LAKE (1796 Hunterdon Co, NJ - 1874 Susquehanna Co, PA) for ages. I haven't found anything concrete but I believe Abraham is the illegitimate son of John C LAKE (1776 Hunterdon Co - 1854 Hunterdon Co). (I believe this for various reasons. For those interested see http://mlake.net/lake/NewJersey/FatherOfAbrahamLake.txt ) John C LAKE married Abigail CASE/KASE/KAES after 1800. Abigail was born in 1786 and would have been too young to be the mother of Abraham. Abraham LAKE married Susan GARRISON in about 1818 in Hunterdon Co. Abraham and his family lived in Warren Co from about 1824 to 1858, specifically Hainesburg from at least 1840 until they moved to Susquehanna Co in 1858. For a number of years Abraham owned a hotel in Hainesburg. Two of his children who both died young are buried in the Hainesburg Cemetery. The remainder of Abraham's children moved to Susquehanna Co with Abraham except for Elizabeth. Elizabeth was married to Jacob J BECK and had her own family by 1858. Her and her family remained in Hainesburg. At the time of the 1840 census there was an elderly female residing with Abraham and his family in Hainesburg. The mother of Abraham's spouse, Dinah (ROBINS) GARRISON, was living about 2 miles south of Bloomsbury at the time. I have never found any reference to John C LAKE having a son named Abraham so I believe Abraham was raised by his mother. I'm going to make a couple of assumptions (I know - I'm grasping at straws) ... (1) the elderly female living with Abraham in 1840 was his mother and (2) the name of Abraham's mother was Elizabeth (Abraham's firstborn was named Elizabeth). Elizabeth (Abraham's mother) would have been born between 1775 and 1780, probably in Hunterdon Co. She would have died sometime between 17 Sep 1840 and 27 Jul 1850 in Warren Co. So, my silly request for info is ... does anyone know of any Elizabeth meeting the above birth and death date requisites with a son named Abraham? I've checked Hainesburg Cemetery and there's no candidate buried there which I can see. It could be that Elizabeth married after Abraham was born and she was buried with her husband. I've looked for possible wills and have found nothing. Maybe there was an obit or death notice published in the local newspaper when Elizabeth died? I'm also open to any suggestions anyone might have to offer. Thanks for your indulgence. -- Marshall Lake -- mlake@mlake.net -- http://mlake.net

    3. I had FTM version 9 for quite awhile before I upgraded to version 11. I have many hundreds of notes, probably thousands (I have over 14,000 people in my file) and have never lost a note to my knowledge. It sounds like either the program or more likely the data file got corrupted somehow, maybe by a virus or a hard shutdown (power failure, etc). Did you know that the program automatically makes a backup file (it has the extension *.FBK whereas the data file has the extension *.FTW)? You may be able to recover your file that way, by going to the File menu and selecting Restore from Backup. Also, though it's a little late now, it's a very good idea to protect your information by occasionally going to the File menu and selecting Copy/Export Family File. That creates a duplicate file which you can give a name with a date in it, for example - FamilyFile27July2006.ftw. That will give you another form of backup and also tells you when the file was created. I keep a number of files by date so that I can go back to an earlier version if I mess something up. mel slane Peoria, il -----Original Message----- From: JRflannigan@aol.com [mailto:JRflannigan@aol.com] Sent: Thursday, July 27, 2006 8:19 PM To: NJWARREN-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [NJWARREN] I lost my notes on Family Tree Maker Hello to all my friends, I have a serious dilemma. 3. Hi all, Is there a place to post pictures of mutual interest? I have some scans of glass slides that i can't identify. They might trigger a memory for someone else. I can host them on my site but I'm not sure how to get them some exposure. I have some of the glass negatives here: http://netbrent.net/coppermine/thumbnails.php?album=13 I also have ancestor files in the LDS program. It's work that my mother Belva Geiger Rymon (recently deceased at 91) did over the years. I'm not sure how to share it with others that may have ancestors in common. Post surnames? Brent Rymon
