    1. [NJWARREN] Church records
    2. Marilyn Souders
    3. Jan- I wonder if I can make a deal with you? Would it be possible for you to photocopy those Stewartsville church records and send them to me? I'd be more than happy to pay the costs of copying and postage. If I had paper copies, I could enlarge them at the print shop. In return, I have been tracking two known copies of St. James (Straw) church baptisms and marriages that are follow-on to those already published and posted on your site. If I remember correctly, the ones that are now available go up to ca. 1820. The ones I know about begin where those leave off and go up to ca. 1900. As I understand it, the church no longer has the records and I've never encountered them either at the Marx Room or at the Warren Co Historical Society. Where I know they exist, in both cases they've been inaccessible over the past decade. One set is in the possession of Dick Piatt, a sometimes poster to the Warren list. I've tried every known wheedle to get him to make a copy and send it/share it, but he always has an excuse. (Back 30 years ago, his cousin was the church archivist and I guess that's how he got his set) He is a self-styled "genealogist" and I think he doesn't like to share. The other set is in the collection of the Brooklyn Historical Society. I worked there in the 70s and used the source then but didn't realize then how apparently rare they were. I'm sure the provenance was from the years when Harriet Stryker-Rodda was the Director, a few years just prior to my working there. The historical society library has been - unbelievably - closed to the public for the past decade! I've volunteered there over the past year while they cataloged their collection and now, in Oct., they expect to be open again one afternoon a week. As soon as I can get in there, I intend to copy a few pages each time till I have the whole set. As soon as I get them, I'll be glad to share them with you for your web site. For the record, I would have shared these anyway. I'm just playing here, with the idea of a deal. If you can't do it, don't worry. 2. Ouch, Marilyn...I scanned them, made sure I got them correctly numbered, then discarded them! I've already started to print my scans of them for you. I'm leaving Tuesday for NYC to visit my son for a few days...will try to get them into the mail to you tomorrow...but I need your address! Jan

    1. [NJWARREN] Readington Church Records by Jan Raub
    2. In a message dated 9/13/2006 8:43:02 A.M. Pacific Standard Time, njwarren-request@rootsweb.com writes: http://raub-and-more.com/readingtonbap/01.html Jan: I was wondering if anyone else had the same problem as I did when trying to print out your scanned pages. When I tried printing out the first five pages and then the second five pages all I got was 3 pages and then it really wasn't three pages. It was really page 1 and part of page 2 only, then the bottom of page 5 where it was written that part of the page was missing. That was all that page 3 of the printed copy that I got. So basically I am not getting the balance of page 2, all of three, four and five. The same bit of information came through on pages 6-10. I only got a portion of the record to print and I don't want to go through the whole thing and only get parts. So I was wondering if anyone else had this same problem with printing. I see later comments about the copy being dark. That isn't the case for me. Everything came up on screen just fine. It has probably been fixed and resubmitted to the web. It also prints clear too, at least the pages I tried to print that is. Christie Trapp

    2. I cannot seem to get this sent to Jan Ruether. My mail tells me RAUBand more.com is not a member??? How can this reach Jan? Dear Jan I believe I have read everything on your site that in any way pertains to my husband's maternal family. Also I have been to Hunterdon County library, Warren Hist. Soc., various cemeteries and numerous internet sites for info. I have concluded that my husband and you are 42nd. cousins somehow !!!! I may have finally found the connection to the Knowlton branch, as I believe your Wilhelm (1767-1845) [and Elizabeth (1769-1859)] is the cousin of our Christian (1762-1829) who had married Lena Insley, he being the son of Christian (Crest) (?1720-1770) who had come to Scotts Mountain, Franklin Twsp. from Amwell in 1758. But then I have his father as Wilhelm Sr. married to Maria. Where does this elder Wilhelm fit into the picture? Is he a brother of the first Christian, along with Paul and a Christopher who stayed in Amwell? My first problem- I found Wilhelm and wife Elizabeth buried in Montana Churchyard- not far from the homestead. Is this correct? Why not Knowlton where they went to church and were so active? Second problem--Who was this first Christian (Crest) who was married to Mary and has a will (that is avail) and owned and retained property in Amwell after moving north? I have doc. that Conrad (Koenrat) Kuhl was nat. July 1730 and probably born about 1690 in Germ. and a Paul Cool nat. July 1730, born about about 1710 in Germ. But no other info for the first Christian, nat. in Oct 1754. How do Conrad, Paul and Christian connect? There is nothing that I found in Hunt. to sort this out? Third-- Can find not another word about Conrad anywhere, with any spelling of the surname- Cool, Kaul, Koul, Kuhl, Kule, Kaull etc. as found on various Hunt. Co. doc. One place it speaks of Paul Cool Jr., not the son of Paul Cool Sr. which adds to the jumble, but he is probably Christian (Crest)'s son, since six were born before the move here. Was there more than one Paul who went by Cool, as there are different reports of his parents names? M. Lake has one set and someoone else another. I am very interested in any light you could shed on this, particulaly the Amwell people. We definately go back to Christian and Mary, but further back I cannot connect the dots !! Will appreciate any ideas. Thanks in advance. Mary Alice

    2. Christie (and all), My mistake. Originally I had combined pages 1 through 5 and then 6 through 10 into one jpeg each. I just went back and separated the pages...it should be ok for you now. 2. To further inform---the area was Mansfield Twsp. back when the cemetery started. Washington and Washington Twsp. were carved out of Mansfield Twsp. Don't have the dates at hand, but it must have been around the turn of the 19th. century. Check Hunterdon Co. history, as Warren Co. was not made until 1825, cut from Sussex Co. MaryAlice
