    3. I have a Christopher or George Lefler who married a Person and they are buried in Harmony(announced in Easton Paper)----and I believe a bunch of Leflers lived in Harmony or South Harmony. I am interested because the father of these named Leflers was John who is buried at Strw Church. His father may be old Jacob of the German Lutheran Church in Williams,Pa -just across the River. But my John born about the same time seems to be descended from Peter d 1794 m Angl family and lived in Hunterdon CO-Oxford. I want to know how this all worked???? ----- Original Message ----- From: "Marilyn Souders" <msouders@nyc.rr.com> To: "Linda Huff Muessig" <lmuessig@earthlink.net>; <njwarren@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, November 09, 2006 7:21 AM Subject: Re: [NJWARREN] (no subject) > I've discovered tavern applications at Hunterdon County, so would expect > the > same laws would apply in Warren. 3. I've discovered tavern applications at Hunterdon County, so would expect the same laws would apply in Warren. There, it seems, the person wanting to run a tavern needed to submit an affadavit of good character with names of people who knew him. But, if before 1824, then you'd look at Sussex Co. courthouse. If you've never been to Harmony, you may not realize that the building - probaby - still exists. At least, a building that once was called Harmony Hotel - and probably a lot of other names too - stands at the top of the incline where 519 bends toward Belvidere (it's still 519 going toward Belvidere, by the way). It's clearly an old building and in my lifetime - last 60 years - someone had painted over the date on the chimney, but I think it said 1783. What was the name of your family who owned it? I think I have a note somewhere saying that it was owned by a Person/Persing family too. 2. Are there any ancestors of James P. Snell, who penned "History of Sussex & Warren Counties, New Jersey", 1881 on this list? James P. Snell states, on page 534, of the above mentioned book: "Frederick Searles, from whose storehouse of written memoranda pertaining to the early history of Belvidere we have been permitted to make oft-repeated drafts, ........" Frederick Searles (1804-1894) is my gggrandfather. I have been trying to track down the above mentioned writings and have had no luck. Perhaps some of the "drafts" made by James Snell still exist. I am interested in obtaining copies. Or, perhaps someone on this list has an idea of where look. I have checked with my relatives in Belvidere, who live in the house Frederick Searles' built, but they have found no "writings". The Warren County Genealogical & Historical Society doesn't have them. Any ideas? Thank you, Lyn Magill-Hoch
