O.K. I confess I slept thru History and Geography in High School and then again in college...could SKS please tell me where Morristown is? I found an abstract of Rev War Pension applications this past weekend and my 4G-grandfather, William Dougherty, alias Connor enlisted in Morristown. He was the step-son of John Dougherty. Also, if there is anyone who has any information on William or John Dougherty, please let me know. Thank you, Dan in Nebraska _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com

Hi, folks..... Thanks to the help of Sally Fisher, who offered her nimble fingers to help with typing, I've added Pequest Union Cemetery, Independence Township, to my web site. You can find this cemetery beginning at http://raub-and-more.com/pequestcem1.html. Jan Reuther
Anisah, Thank you for posting this article to the list. I descend from David BEERS, Jr. (1783-1847) and Mary Magdalen PRALL (1785-1866) from Montana Mt, Warren, NJ. I have documents that show her father's name was Joseph PRALL who married Sarah Swanson. I do not have dates on the parents, but feel that this is the same family. If anyone else has any information on this Joseph PRALL, I would appreciate hearing from you. I got this article from a library when I requested info on Coles. I don't know if/how they are related to me, but maybe it could be useful to someone else: >From the Washington Star, Dec 10, 1894: Margaret Cole nee Prall Aged Mother and Children Mrs. Cole and her Sons and Daughters - a Brief history of Their ancestors: The family Group, illustrated in this article, were all born and raised in this county. They are the descendants of The Prall and Cole families who settled on Scott's Mountain during the last Century. The first Prall that we have any knowledge of settled in West Amwell Township, Hunterdown County, long before the War of the Revolution. His name was Aaron and his wife was a French Woman. One of his sons, Aaron, Jr. married Margaret Hixon in 1760. The young couple started out to found a home of their own. With two horses hitched to a wagon, which contained all their worldly possessions, they drove through this valley, but not being favorably impressed with its appearance, ascended the wooded slopes of Scott's Mountain where they made their home. Three children were born to them--Margaret, Aaron, and Joseph. The eldest of the two boys, Aaron--the third of the Pralls to bear that name-- was born on the mountain in 1766. He married Letitia Chamberlin, whose parents lived on the Pennsylvania side of the Delaware River. Seven children were born to them--Elizabeth, Aaron (4th), John, James, Thomas, Margaret, and William. Of these children, Margaret is the only one now living. She is the Widow of Jacob Cole, and resides with her daughter, Mrs. Joab Mershon, in this borough. About the year 1785 Christian Cole and wife settled on Scott's Mountain. They were Germans. They erected a log house at Springvilel (now Montana), so called because of a large spring in the neighborhood. This spring, which supplied the early settlers of that part of the mountain with water, is in a grove of trees near where the Baptist church now stands. Four children were born to them--Margaret, who married a man named Humphrey; Elizabeth, wife of John Lomerson; William, who wedded Elizabeth Cole; and Christian, who married Lena Insley. The latter was the sister of the mother of Hon. John I. Blair. Christian Cole and Lena Insley were the parents of 11 children--John, William, Christopher, Christian, Mary, Catharine, James, Margaret, Elizabeth, Jacob, and Samuel. Jacob, the sixth son, married Margaret Prall. To Jacob and Margaret Cole were born seven children, all of whom are living--Mrs. Letitia Hampton, a widow; Mrs. Lena Bowers, wife of J. Clark Bowers; Mrs. Sarah Mershon, wife of Joab Mershon; Thomas Cole, all of this borough; Mrs. Catharine Ellicott, a widow, of Cleveland, Ohio; Christopher and Jacob Cole, of Washington Township. Jacob Cole, the father of the family, died many years ago, but his widow enjoys comparatively good health in spite of her more than ninety years of life. Mrs. Cole's living descendants number 68, as follows: 7 children, 19 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren; 5 generations in all. I am also researching Coles in NJ: Jacob S. Cole, b. 1820/21 in Oxford, then Sussex, now Warren County, NJ, died 1880 in Brown County, Illinois. Married Priscilla Reed in Wayne County, Pa. Parents names unknown, but from Census info, father born in Mass, mother born in NY. Anyone else's Coles go to Illinois too? Is there someone on this list that could give me some direction to help solve a conflict I have? Birth Certificate and Social Security application has identical name, Nellie K. OPDYKE; birth date, 24 Jan 1892; birth place, Warren Co, NJ and father's full name, George O. OPDYKE. Mother's first and middle name is different - not even close: Jennie H. and Mary Jane. Maiden name LANNING is the same. Tombstone at Stewartsville Lutheran Cemetery reads: George O. OPDYKE and Jennie H. his wife. Any ideas on how I can resolve this? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Sue [email protected] ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! Hi, folks... I've added Greenwich Presbyterian Cemetery to my web site. You can find it starting at http://raub-and-more.com/greenwich/greenwichcem1.html. Jan Reuther
Adaline Hazlett and William Crane were married in Belvidere, Warren County, NJ in 1854. If you have information about this family, I would like to hear from you. Madge
Hi, folks..... I've added Ramseyburg Cemetery to my web site. You can find it at http://raub-and-more.com/ramseyburgcem.html. Jan Reuther
I know this is really a long "long shot" but I am wondering if anyone on this list might have a copy of James Hazlitt's will. He was born in 1745, married Catharine Cummins in 1771. Madge
I too am interested in records for the Old Oxford Church in Belvidere. Also any other church records in that area. Pat
Hi, folks... I've added the Methodist Church of Columbia to my web site. You can find it at http://raub-and-more.com/columbiamethcem.html. Thanks to all who responded on Washington Cemetery, I've learned that "Asso" probably does stand for "Association", and I've got a location for it too. Thanks! Jan Reuther
I am trying to locate the records for the Old Oxford Church. Does anyone know if they exist and if so where? In reading the history of the church I understand it existed in the late 1700's and became either the Harmony Presbyterian or the Presbyterian Church of Belvidere in the 1800's. Looking in the LDS library files I see films for the records of Harmony Pres. 1832-1884 and no films church records for Belvidere. Does anyone know where I might find these, also? I am trying to connect my Cutslers born in Oxford in 1869 to earlier Cutslers. A Cutslter married into a Mt. Bethel family and had a child William Cutsler in 1811. I cannot find them in any churches in the Mt. Bethel/Stone Chruch area. The next Cutslers I found appear in the 1840's marrying in Oxford. I do not know which church they attended, although I know they were protestant, and was hoping these three churches contain their records. THANK YOU.
Sandy Read, My email on Banghart was returned as undeliverable within 24 hrs. Should I try again? or do you have another email address? Shotwells were still in Independence/Liberty Twp area in mid 50's. Don't know if that relates to your question. Bethia Banghart died Oct 1, 1854, aged 94 yrs, 5 mos, 8 days. She and Michael are b behind Oxford Pres Church. If I can help you with anything else, just email me. Pat Sorry to post this to list, but saw Shotwell come through and knew it came from the same person. Pat
