    1. [NJUNION] Plainfield-1st recreational plane crash
    2. Helaine Golann
    3. On September 17th, 1927, four of my family members were killed in a plane crash on a Plainfield farm. They were Helen O'Neill, Russell and Russell JR Campbell, and Minnie Donavan. Quite a few others were also killed or seriously injured including two more relatives of mine who lived although they were not initially expected to do so. It was probably not more than a half hour flight and people were lined up to go on it. My Uncle Russell was treating because it was my Aunt Helen's 20th birthday. The plane crashed when it failed to clear some trees in an Orchard on a Plainfield farm near the airfield. I know from my mother's stories that it was a big event at the time and people lined up all the way down Front Street t opay their respects to my family's dead at Trinity Reformed Church (since torn down). I am wondering if anyone out there has memories of this and/or suggestions of how I could get more information. My library does not interloan newspapers (e.g. The Plainfield Courier).
