Hello all, I just arrived home to find a much awaited letter from Rahway Public Cemetery on St. George Avenue in my mailbox. I previously sent them (2/1/200) a SASE with letter enclosed asking for further information about two family groups buried there, hoping for anything they might have of record. Despite two courteous phone calls from me in the interim, and several assurances that "We're working on it..", PLUS my original $25 check, which, oddly enough, was cashed promptly and which was required for the "search", I received in response one poorly handwritten letter, or rather note, barely literate, with five family members listed, "complete" with partial death dates and plot numbers. I had been hoping for a plot map of each, maybe a few birth or death places and dates, and the usual "anything else" in the file. Needless to say I am dissappointed at the lack of concern and professionalism shown by this organization. Maybe the cemetery is underfunded, maybe they are understaffed, I don't know, but I would think a public cemetery with many, many members of Colonial New Jersey families buried in it could do better. I would caution anyone before they send $25 to be aware that they search may take some time and the results, if they can be gauged by my experience, may be minimal to nothing. Has anyone else had a more plesant experience with these folks? I hope so! Dave Kane San Leandro CA
