Richard Swain of Morris or Essex County, N.J., is reported to be the artilleryman, or keeper, of the "Old Sow," a cannon of the colonial forces during the Revolutionary War, and to have had a grandson also named Richard Swain, who lived in Summit in Union County, N.J.
