    3. Last night while checking something on the Brown family I got into the 1830 census for Union Twp, then in Essex County (on Ancestry.com). On the first page for Union, which I could easily recognize from the families was along Stuyvesant Ave (and possibly Stanley Terrace, then called Vauxhall Rd, just to be confusing) I found the following. My sense of the properties is that this list starts where Vauxhall Road enters Union from Essex County, and then turns on Stanley Terrace. William Day (40-50) with a substantial family. The widow Martha Day (40-50) with family Dr. Waldow Brown (30-40) with family John G. Mooney (30-40) with family Widow Martha Brown (70-80) Benjamin Brown (50-60) Rhoda Brown (40-50) Sarah Brown (70-80) Stephen Headley F.[or f] (20-30) Henry Brown (40-50) Most of this area was owned by Stephen Brown (1680-1767) and divided between his sons Caleb, Joel, and Benjamin, and most of the people here are descendants or widows of descendants. The ages and locations lead me to conclude: Martha Brown was the second wife of Stephen Brown (d. 1817), a son of Joel Brown. I do not know here last name. Sarah Brown is likely the widow of Nathaniel Brown, who died a youngish man in 1790. Nathaniel held land inherited from his father, Joel, along Lightning Brook. Rhoda Brown is Rhoda Durand, widow of Nathaniel and Sarah's son, Thomas, who died in 1825. The two young men in the house must be Ogden and Israel E. Brown; her middle son, Joseph, must be living elsewhere. The boys came into the estate of Thomas, previously owned by Nathaniel, son of Joel. Benjamin and Henry are the sons of Henry, the son of Benjamin Brown. The land Henry inherited from Stephen was partly in Essex (going back to John Brown's lands from the second division of Newark settlers) and partly land bought from John Ogden. Does anyone know anything about Doctor Waldo Brown? It certainly looks as if he must be connected to the Browns there. The Days may also be connected, but it would have to be back to an unknown daughter of Joel. The Mooneys purchased property owned by the Browns, and there is no apparent connection. Anyone interested in these families? Wilson Brown
