Is anyone researching the HAMPTON family of Elizabeth/Rahway? I have a marriage record for Jonathan Hampton of Richmond (Staten Island?) marrying Elizabeth Bird in Rahway in Feb 1740. Jonathan's will dated 1745 mentions his wife Elizabeth and his son-in-law, John Bird. I had read somewhere that the term "son-in-law" could also refer to a step-son in the colonial wills. If this is the case, this Elizabeth Bird could be the widow of Joseph Bird of Rahway. Any more info on this family would be appreciated.
