Margaret, Elizabethtown is now Elizabeth, NJ. In NJ(can't seak for other states), what was at the end of the name of the town, i.e. "town," depended on the population. When a town reached a certain population it evolved from town to township to status of city. Thus Elizabeth is now, "The City, of Elizabeth, in Union County." Gosh..after all those eons, I remember what I was taught in school. LOL. In the 1700s, there is written history. Sugesst you contact Westfield library. Heard that Elizabeth no longer has a Historical Society. There are some Elizabeth sites. Do you know the religion? Were they in Amer. Rev? Have also heard that Rutgers has a collection of earlier records. Grace O'Kane
