    1. [NJUNION] John Adams/Margaret McGiven
    2. My head was so sore from banging the brick wall that I sort of eased off for a while, but here goes again! In the 1870 Union Co. census, Scotch Plains, I found what I believe is my husband's grandparents. He knew his father was born in New Jersey, but that was all he knew of the family. The DC shows the grfather John Adams and grmother Margaret McGiven. In 1870 John was 54 years old, Margaret 42 with a son John, age 17 and son Henry age 5. Henry would be my husband's father and I was able to get a birth record from the state on his birth and parents. According to this census John Sr. was born in Switzerland and Margaret in Ireland. I did not find them in the 1880 census. Occupation was farmer. I would like to know where John and Margaret are buried and if the son John has any family still living. Have contacted several churches, cemeteries and the Scotch Plains library with no success. I believe they were Catholic, but the church there will not provide any information. My husband said he remembered his father writing to a brother John when my husband was small...this would have been in the 1920's. My husband's father came to Alabama, probably after he was grown and possibly parents had died. With no death date the NJ search for a DC seems to be rather expensive so I have not tried that yet. Any suggestions would be most appreciated. Rose Dennis Adams
