Jan, I have a feeling Bruce will get all sentimental again when I show him your letter. Leon, Jr. is still living, thought considerably older than we are. His son and granddaughter should really love to hear about Leon Sr.'s place, although Leon sadly has Alzheimers. I would LOVE to get a copy of the article you mentioned, and I would gladly pay postage, etc. That is so great! Bruce has been in Florida for a long time, now, but he gets so very homesick for NJ at times. (Not in the winter, though! <grin>) When he looks at the postcards, he remembers the exact locations, even if the buildings are not there anymore. He still asks everyone he meets from that area if they remember the hot dogs from a certain place (I will have to ask him the name). He compares all hot dogs with those. Pat, Yes, you are right about the Greene connection. Also the SDB church. I think Dr. Iretus Greene Cardner and wife Joanne Elizabeth Briggs were members at one time. I believe even until the 1870's.? Not sure. I will put up a separate post on Joanna Briggs Cardner. She was a foster child of the Thomas and Susannah Stillman of NY and NJ. Some interesting items of hers at the SDB Historical Society. ( I will get that post up) Iretus was the son of Barber J. Cardner and Malvina Colegrove. Malvina was the daughter of Eli Colegrove and Judith Greene. I will have to look back at my records to refresh my mind on Judith, but I think her dad was Capt. William Greene, but not sure. I have some church records that show that Barber J. was "excluded", but no date is given. I know that he and Malvina had two children, but Iretus is the only one I know. They must have divorced before 1840, as Malvina married a Fred Garner. Their daughter later married a Cardner. I have often wondered why they divorced, and if that would have excluded him from the church. He was shown on the 1880 census in Sullivan County, NY, with a very young wife. He was 70, she was 40ish. They had 2 daughters under 10. I forget all the details and would have to look it up. Sounds like an interesting scenario there. I believe Barber J. was the son of Barber Cardner and Polly Burdick, and I am writing places and phoning, trying to find some proof of that. I am convinced in my mind, but I would prefer more. I enjoyed both your posts so very much. Can't wait to share them with hubby.! Sydney Cardner
