The Hampton Family was of Staten Island, NY and then of Rahway. NJ. His will was dated 5 March 1744/45 and proved 19 April 1745. John Stites, ancestor of many honored citizens of New Jersey, was born at Hempstead, Long Island, in 1706, and died at Springfield, New Jersey, April 21, 1782. He was a Chosen Freeholder and Justice of Etown, and a Deputy in the Provincial Congress of New Jersey in 1775.
