Does anyone know whether there was a requirement in NJ, specifically Union County, that a person had to be a citizen of the US to purchase property? I am trying to pin down when my grandmother emigrated. National Archives has no record of her naturalization but she purchased property in Westfield in 1897, a year or two before she married. Thanks.
