That's why we >pay extra...to have the search done. I have never had such problems with any other V.S. >office before. I assume you're talking about the City of Elizabeth vital statistics office, as the counties don't keep vital statistics (except for some county marriage records from the 1800s). In the more populated areas, it's usually easier to get vital records from the State. This page has a link to the form for obtaining vitals through 1878, along with the phone number for the Bureau of Vital Statistics (Dept. of Health) for later records: http://www.state.nj.us/state/darm/a_access.html Good luck! 3. Need some help finding the ancestors of Jean Joseph Bargeon. I only have bits of information. Possible date of death 24 May 1920 or it is the date of a record. Am trying to find Bargeon Ancestors. Know there are lots of Bargeons in LA. but am now researching ones in New Hampshire and in the East. Also am researching Pitcher. Found a Lewis Pitcher, a Sergeant in the 60th Regt. married to Jane LaBrie at St. Johns Church in N.J. Elizabethtown in 1772 Oct 22. Hope someone can help with these folks. J. Bargeon

    1. [NJUnion] finding a death date
    2. William Meier
    3. Here is a suggestion for finding a death date. The New York Times has a every name index to their yearly index. I used this for the first time yesterday at local library. I was suprised at the number of Union Co. deaths that appeared in The New York Times. Luckly our library has the microfilms from early 1900 onwards. I didn't find all of my people but more then I expected. The Elizabeth Public Library also has copies of the local newpaper but it is not indexed. Regards Bill Researching Bernhard from Elizabeth

    3. It is not only Union Co. but the state office too! I just received the following form letter back from the State of New Jersey Dept. of Health and Senior Services. qte Effictive Immediately Birth, Marriage and Death Records Search Unit: There will no longer be year before and year after serches. The search unit staff will search the requested year and the year requested only in response to a customer request. Customer Service Unit: The Bureau of Vital Statisitics will no longer accept a request to search or certify a birht, marriage or death record within our files unless the person who is making the request is able to provide the following information: a) the exact nam e that is currently recorded on the birth, marriage, or death record (first middle last) b) the exact place of birth, marriage or death(city) c) the exact date of birth, marriage or death (month day year) d) the mother's maiden name e) the Father's name(when recorded) There is no exception to this rule unqte I find this form letter totally unacceptable!!!! I did find a expensive way around this by using a paid researcher to do the search for me. He was very quick and effecient. Too bad we couldnt have the state pay him and lay off those who do not want to do the work? 2. April Mills
    3. Hi list, I am trying to research the ancestors and descendants of a Lewis D. Mills (1817-1889) of Westfield. He was a shoemaker. I have some copies of some indexes of vital records of NJ that list records I would love to see but I live in Washington state. Is anyone willing to do lookups in the state vital records archives? I will gladly pay for time and copies and shipping. I just hate going through the state for things like this because they take so long to respond. I look forward to being a member of this list. If anyone would like to contact me with regards to Mills families of the area I do have some information on Mills' other than just Lewis D. Mills. I am also researching the family of James B. Smith that lived in Plainfield in 1880 if anyone has any ties to that family. Thanks in advance for your help.
