    1. [NJUnion] (no subject)
    2. Hi Listers, I have batted my head against the wall for four years trying to find out where in Germany my Great Grandfather came from. I have taken all the usual steps including getting a copy of his Naturalization application and final papers but it only lists Germany as his place of origin! This is the last piece of my puzzle and I would appreciate any guidance that someone might have. By the way I reviewed all of the ship records from 1881, 1882 and 1883, that I could obtain with no results, other than I have had to have my prescription eye glasses upgraded! Please e-mail me directly with any suggestions. Thanks, Tom Ramsberger TRF649@aol.com

    3. No, it's not soundexed. It's available through the FHC and it doesn't contain much info but better than no record. Don Lutz Virginia Beach ----- Original Message ----- From: "Tommi R. Hi Listers, Are the New Jersey censuses for 1855, 1885, 1895, 1905 and 1915 for everyonein the entire state? If so, where do we get them?? Can they be ordered through the Family History Centers??? Wow, I thought there would be no census I could find my great-grandfather on. Martin Martin (creative name ...), who immigrated from Norway about 1890 and died in December of 1899 in Elisabeth, Union County. I would do (almost) anything to get his information from the 1895 NJ census! Is it Soundexed? I have his address at the time of his death, but I'm not sure if he was living at the same address four years earlier -- but I would search EVERY name in Elizabeth if I could find out how to view the census!!! 3. Hi List, Wondering if someone could lookup William and Mary (Marie) Horky living in Elizabeth, NJ in 1901. Their daughter, Olga was born Feb. 7, 1901 in Elizabeth. Could SKS check the 1905 census for the Horky's? Thanks. Bob Phillips

    1. [NJUnion] 1890 Census
    2. Hello, As far as I know there is no 1890 Census of all of the residents of New Jersey. However, in 1890 there was a Federal census of Civil War veterans (and their widows) which may be helpful. I'm not sure if it is complete for Union County, but it is well worth checking. It often listed their units, dates of service, and wounds. Good luck! David Kane www.westfieldnj.com/firstfamilies

    1. [NJUnion] Visit to Union and Essex Counties
    2. I am going to be in the Elizabeth area in the next few weeks and hope to do some research as well as visit some of the places where my Bunnell/Bonnell, Hendrick, Clarke and Jones ancestors lived. I am particularly interested in the Bonnell House at 1045 E. Jersey St. and the Elizabeth Heritage Society at 500 N. Broad St. in Elizabeth, the Bonnell House at 32 Wachtung St. and the Historical Society of Chatham Twp. at 22 Paper Mill Rd. in Chatham, and the New Providence Historical Society at 1350 Springfield Ave in New Providence. Does anyone know the hours that these places are open to the public? Also does anyone who is familiar with the area have any suggestion about where I could best spent my limited time on research - which of the various libraries or societies would be most fruitful. I have never been in that area before and want to make the best use of my time. Specifically I am descended from Nathaniel Bonnell (ca 1640-1711), Jabez Hendrick (1651-1694), Jeffrey Jones (ca 1643-ca 1717), Richard Clarke (ca 1662-ca 1742), and Isaac Whitehead (1624-1660). All of these persons lived in Elizabeth and were members of the Elizabeth-Town Associates. I will appreciate any suggestions. Jim Barbee Reynoldsburg OH
