    2. Hannah D. Murphy born June 29, 1796, NJ, died May 6, 1876 Preble County, OH married John Marsh D'Camp February 21, 1814 NJ They were Quaker and transfered in 1823 from Harwick, NJ >From her bible records she writes she is the daughter of Lydia & Daniel MURPHY. That is all I have I have been trying to find her family since 1970. Can anyone help ... early NJ census, Quaker records in NJ, are there any other records available for info? I live in TX I have 7 letters I put on some of the lists written by my gr gr gr grandfather John Marsh D'Camp. He wrote them after moving from NJ to OH, to his family in NJ. Because of the people he named I was able to find his mother's family. Some people I cannot find and do not know the relationship but he did refer to Aunt Betsy & Uncle Amos Dail, NJ. Aunt Betsy wanted to send items to Hannah and may be related on her side of the family. I have tried every spelling I can think of. In the letters John also mentioned Charlotte Scudder & Aunt Peggy Scudder but they may be related on his DeCamp/Williams side. If anyone on this Warren Co., site had family moving to OH or further west you may enjoy the letters and I will send transcribed copies. Let me know, as I have gotten 'thank you' from others that have read them. He tells how to make the box to store items on the wagon and what to bring, compares the land in NJ to the rich soil in OH, and so much more. Nina

    2. I have double checked the original copy of John Marsh D'Camp's letters to make sure B Dunham was not R Dunham .... He did write B, there is no doubt the way it is written. Someone asked if it could be R. B Dunham & Sally ... CincinnatiI In the letters reference is made to their daughter Sally Ann living with Aunt Peggy Scudder. Williams or D'Camp side???? I have Margeret's on DeCamp & Williams ... Decamp's were friends/neighbors etc to Scudder's, Shotwell's, Marsh's and so many names from early NY/Dutch/NJ records I copied cemetery records(4 pages Beeson - Keller) where John Marsh & William Edgar D'Camp families are buried at Summerville Cem., Butler Co., OH also buried there DUNHAM, Sally, d. 12 Nov 1841, ae 38y, 11m, 1d, wife of Benjamin Nina

    2. Audrey Shields Hancock
    3. Hello, I am interested in the B. Dunham & Sally mentioned below...and, Ross Dunham & Sally mentioned below. My ancestors were Ross Dunham and Sarah "Sally" Roll who went from Westfield Twp., Essex Co. (now Union Co.), NJ to Hamilton Co., OH. Ross and Sarah eventually are found in Miami Co., OH. I am trying to learn more of Ross' ancestry. I know his father was Joseph Dunham and mother was Mary "Polly" Miller who went with all but one of their children to Hamiton Co., OH. The only one who remained in Westfield area was son, Moses Dunham, that I am aware of. The Dunhams appear to be numerous in Essex Co. and Union Co. and come from two different lineages...one being Deacon John Dunham of Plymouth and the other being Jonathan Dunham (alias Jonathan Singletary). This is my father's line. Then I have a MILLS line from my mother's side. I note that Joseph MILLS married 1809 Westfield, NJ to Sarah WILLIAMS. One Smith WILLIAMS served as bondman at the time of the estate filing for my ancestor, William MILLS, of Westfield. [Smith Williams m Mary Hatfield December 8, 1785 Westfield Presbyterian Church, Westfield, NJ] I have the following: Estate of William MILLS (#1). 19 Mar 1795 inventory included the following: Negro girl 35 pounds Negro girls bed & bedding Negro boy 60 pounds one large Bible 20 Mar 1795- Intestate Record: Adms.: Jeremiah MILLS & William MILLS swore William MILLS died w/o a will. Bondsman: Smith WILLIAM (sic...WILLIAMS) 15 Jan 1802-Inventory filed by appraisers. I am open to any thoughts on interrelationships between any of these families. Was Joseph Mills related to William Mills and Abner Mills. I know that Abner Mills married #2 Mary "Polly" (Miller) Dunham, both widowed, in Hamilton Co., OH. Abner Mills married 1793 Westfield, NJ to first Elizabeth "Betsey" Marsh. Audrey

    2. While we're on the subject, does anyone know what induced people from New Jersey to move to Southern Ohio in the late 1700's-early 1800's? While we can say that it was cheap land, etc., how did they really find out about it? Was it strictly word of mouth, or were there advertizements in the periodicals, etc.? Or perhaps people like John Cleaves Symmes who were promoting land speculation? Several of my ancestors went to Butler County in 1807, and many Westfield (Essex Co., NJ) people seem to have been there, or followed shortly thereafter. 3. Hi Nina and all, Nancy and Ann were used interchangeably - Ann is a nickname for Nancy - so I think you are on target there. Were you able to verify that the second Nancy mentioned in Benjamin's will abstract was really Elizabeth (this was only my theory, I do not have a copy of the original will)? Abstract is as follows: NJ Calendar of Wills 1791 - 1795 p. 399 - 1792, Nov. 7. Williams, Benjamin, of Elizabeth Twsp., Essex Co.; will of. Wife, Sarah, 1/3 of personal property, 1 mare and income of real estate until eldest son, Marsh, is 21. Eldest son, Marsh, 7 acres of home plantation with house and 5 acres of woodland bought of David Mills. Sons, David, Abraham and John, remainder of home plantation divided between, when of age. Land in the Miamies, Colombia Twsp., [Ohio], divided between the 4 sons. Oldest daughter, Sarah, privilege of living at home and L60. Daughter, Nancy Decamp, L5. Daughters, Margaret and Nancy Williams, each L60, when 18. Residue to the 4 sons. Executors - friends, Ephraim Marsh and James Ross. Witnesses - Daniel Baker, Henry Baker and David Rogers. Proved June 25, 1793. Lib. 33, p. 193. 1793, June 13. Inventory, L533.0.3; made by Jehabod Ross and Charles Clark. file 7814-7817G." I would like to know what your source is for Benjamin Williams wife being a Marsh - his mother was a Sarah Marsh (not a Margaret),dau. of Benjamin Marsh and Margaret Ewen, and this would account for the use of the name Marsh and Margaret by their descendants. I would be very interested in determining Sarah's last name! The following is an extract of what I sent Nina earlier today, trying to identify the people mentioned in the letters she kindly transcribed: "Abraham, Marsh, John, and David were brothers of Nancy Williams. Grandfather Hatfield is Andrew Hatfield, 2nd husband of the Sarah (do you know her last name?)who m. 1 Benjamin Williams (Nancy's & above guys father). I think Benjamin's will abstract has a transcription error - the second Nancy mentioned should probably be Elizabeth (bp. 2/27/1785). An Elizabeth Williams m. Stephen Crane, and had a son Benjamin Williams Crane. (Aunt Betsy and Uncle Stephen Crane). Benjamin W. Crane m. Charlotte Littel. Looks like John had siblings Gideon, Philemon, Charity (m. Isaac Dodder?), William I do not know what relations are with the following people: B. Dunham & Sally (Is this Ross Dunham and Sally Roll? If so, how related?) Uncle Reuben Dunn (m. a Sarah Decamp). Is Sarah a sister of his father's? Aunt Betsy Dail and Uncle Amos Dail Aunt Peggy Scudder Are they on the Murphy side?" Does anyone know what the relationship of this last group is to John Marsh DeCamp and his wife Hannah Murphy? Thanks for any clues!
