    3. I would like to welcome those of you new to this site and tell you there are some really great folks who are willing to help just for the asking. I, myself do Volunteer research at Andersonville Civil War Prison in Andersonville Georgia. There are Any research I do is absolutely at NO cost and I am willing to do what I can. There are 462 prisoners on record from the state of New Jersey and almost 100 who died here, I thought I would send my offer. Here are my sources of research. There are 2 online databases to do lookups.....One by name...one by Company and Regiment. I also have a copy of the Dorence Atwater Death list which has the names and grave numbers of 12960 graves with only 460 marked as " UNKNOWN " This along with a CD I have which contains 34,000 names of the 45,000 who were imprisoned there which helps me find prisoner records because of misspellings of the names or alternate names. I visit the prison site every couple of weeks and have access to the onsite databases as well as the physical files. Please do not consider this spam as my research offer is FREE for the asking and will be posted on this county site only once. If there is anything I can do in helping your research at Andersonville, please just ask. 2. Stephen Carlile
    3. I am trying to locate information on Fanny (Fannie) Young Starkey and her daughter. Fanny died 24 Nov 1970 in Cranford. She was probably living with her daughter's family in Cranford. Her daughter was Gwendolyn Starkey Thurston. Gwendolyn died, according to the SSDI on 7 Oct 1997. Her last residence is also listed as Cranford. I don't know Gwendolyn's husband's name but an Elbert Thurston is listed as deceased in Union County in Feb 1986 and was born about the same year as Gwendolyn. If anyone has any information on these people, I would appreciate your contacting me. If there are obituaries on-line, or available through a newspaper, I would also appreciate knowing that. Thank you very much.

It is known as the "City Directories of the United States" project, found at http://www.uscitydirectories.com. The goal of this project is to identify all known city directories (whether they're in book form, have been microfilmed, or have been transcribed and published online), their years, and their repositories. For example, the 1852/53 directory of San Francisco is available at the Family History Library, Brigham Young University, and online at <http://www.rootsweb.com/~casanfra/52menu.htm>. Currently, the database has the holdings of the following major repositories: 1) National Archives 2) Library of Congress 3) Family History Library 4) Brigham Young University 5) Alabama Department of History Our goal is to eventually list the city directory holdings of all repositories in the United States. Possibly, your local library has a directory that exists nowhere else, or its whereabouts is unknown to other researchers. We'd like to add it to the database. To help you submit information, we've provided an extraction form on the web site, just click on the Submit Information link from any page. In addition to a database of directories, we've provided education on how to use directories, as well as an extensive list of resources regarding directories. We'd like your help in getting the word out. If you'd like, we suggest: 1) Add a link on your site to New Jersey's city directories. Use http://www.uscitydirectories.com/nj.htm as a direct link. 2) Send a message to your project's mailing list describing the project. 3) Participate! If you know of a register of directories, please let us know. If you'd like to create a register of directories, or employ the services of your volunteers, let us know, and we'll provide the direction you may need. 4) Give us feedback on how to make this nation-wide project a success. I appreciate your time and consideration. City directories, for me, were an unknown source for too long. Now my research is never complete if I haven't consulted them. I truly believe this project will be a valuable resource for our genealogy community. If you have any questions or comments, please don't hesitate to contact me personally. 3. The eminent present-day genealogist, Paul Reed, has called I.W. Dunham's 1907 genealogy a "fraud". If that characterization is too harsh, then the best that can be said about it is that it is erroneous. I would avoid it, even if you can find a copy. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Robert Smith" <hawkridge@worldnet.att.net> To: <NJUNION-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, June 21, 2002 8:37 AM Subject: Re: [NJUnion] Quakers & others named in the old letters > There is a DUNHAM Genealogy, written by Isaac Watson DUNHAM in 1907. > No, I don't have a copy, but I believe the NJHS has one.

    1. [NJUnion] Request for lookup in Plainfield Constitutionalist
    2. I'd like to know if anyone on the NJ Union list has access to the 1874 microfilm roll of the newspaper, the Plainfield Constitutionalist, so I can get an obituary. The Plainfield library is missing this reel. I have an obituary from the Central Jersey Times dated Nov 19th, 1874, for Henry A. H. Martin, who died Nov 9, 1874. It is a good article. However the Constitutionalist wrote regularly about him during his life and I think that the obituary from that paper would be even more descriptive. If you have this microfilm reel, please contact me. Or, if you know of another location that might have it, so I can go there and read it, please let me know. Sincerely, Jim LaRue

    1. [NJUnion] Fitz Randolph/Jones
    2. My previous message should have read as follows. "I have Samuel Fitz Randolph m 8 Jun 1693 to Mary Jones dtr of Jeffery Jones, Elizabeth Town NJ.  Does this person connect with your family?" Jeffrey's wife may have been Sephronia but I have no documentation for that. Sorry about any confusion.

    1. [NJUnion] Jeffery Jones' Wife
    2. Harman et al.- Somewhere, I picked up "Susanna N" as the wife of Jeffery Jones. I also have Elizabeth Glover (daughter of Charles) as a prior wife, married May 24, 1661 and died September of 1661. In Southold I suppose. Did I note the sources? Of course not. It's on my chart but not in my notes. Typical. Sorry. <sigh> Gary ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! 3. Thanks for the offer to check. I have the same published works you mention; I have also checked the files of O.D. Drake in Special Collections at Rutgers -- particularly Drake's article on the Jones' family, and he does not give any name to Jeffery's wife. I am also Fitz Randolph descendant, but not of Jones. Nevertheless, if the posted "Sophronia" has no real basis, it would be better for it not to be on the board as there is always someone who will copy it, put it on a website as "gospel", and then have it mushroom down the line. <grin> Harman Clark ----- Original Message ----- From: "D_T_Leo" <D_T_Leo@msn.com> To: <NJUNION-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, June 12, 2002 2:12 PM Subject: [NJUnion] Fitz Randolph > Jim, > > I am a descendent of the Fitz Randolph family and have the family genealogy > (all branches) plus the Supplement to the Fitz Randolph genealogy, so I > looked for you and it states Samuel Fitz Randolph b 1688 at Barnstable, Mass > to Nathaniel Fitz Randolph and First wife Mary Holley, married Mary Jones on > June 8,1693. 3. Jim, I am a descendent of the Fitz Randolph family and have the family genealogy (all branches) plus the Supplement to the Fitz Randolph genealogy, so I looked for you and it states Samuel Fitz Randolph b 1688 at Barnstable, Mass to Nathaniel Fitz Randolph and First wife Mary Holley, married Mary Jones on June 8,1693. Mary was born in Elizabethtown, NJ, daughter of Jeffery Jones. The woman's name you mention is one that I have run across. I have most of the Fitz Randolph headstones on my web site so I will check.
