    2. You might try the public library in Elizabeth and ask for the article from the newspaper about the wedding. That's how I found my grandparents. If you can get it,and the church is mentioned, then try there. Vital statistics are also in the archives in Trenton.

    2. One way: I believe that you can send a request to the Vital Records dept. in Trenton for a copy of the marriage license, giving names/date. The license should name some of the parents. I have only sent away for birth/death records to date. Paul

    3. > Hi Arlene and Tom: The pictures and info about Plainfield were sent with my compliments. If it hadn't been for inquiries posted by you and Alice LaRue, I probably would never have taken time to re-read through the 1934 golden anniversary issue of the Plainfield Courier News that reminisced about life from 1884 forward. I found the copy in my late mother's trunk. Originally, I scanned the newspaper and cut out any reference that I found about my Smalley and Tier ancesters from Plainfield and North Plainfield. Apparently, I wasn't as thorough as I might have been and it took a second scan for information about the various fire companies looking for Hedden and Martin ancestors. My great grandfather, John H. Tier, was one of the four original founders and members of the Gazelle Engine Company and served as its foreman for 7 years before a fire chief was appointed. I found this info in his obituary. Perhaps of more importance to me is that the newspaper contained a 1778 map of the Blue Hills area prepared by Capt. Cornelius Vermule and its military post near the Washington Rock. In the map I found the properties of the original settlers and my more of my ancestors, the Vermules and Cadmus families who together owned over 1200 acres of land. Then I learned from the first issue of The Evening News Plainfield's (first newspaper) that my gg grandfather, Jasper Cadmus lost 13 horses in a fire at his livery stable in 1884 in downtown Plainfield. I also found an article dealing with my great uncles Albert, David and Newton Smalley (all brothers) who engaged in trotting and pacing races at the old Borough Park Track located at Plainfield and Tompkins Avenues in South Plainfield. Three brothers competing against each other along with others drivers must have provided exciting entertainment. Trotting races flourished in the Westfield-Plainfield areas until about 1914 when World War I started. Sometimes a second look provides much more information and I feel very lucky about finding more of my ancestors. I'm that I was able to obtain some information for you, and I thank you all very much for posting to: [email protected] Sincerely, William Smalley Cadmus [email protected]

    3. Hello Lois, I have got a death cert. for a 16 year old who was my grandmothers sister and died in 1913, but they did not block out the cause of death. I have though had other certs blocked out on adults. I think it depends on who completes the request. 1. Re: [NJUNION] cause of death of child
    2. Lois, I think it just varies on the policies of each State. Also when they died is a factor. When did he die? Some states also have a 50 year rule on releasing death certs. to other than direct family members. For instance, my ggrandfather died in TN in 1950 and they would not release his cause of death on the cert. Funny, though my grandmother died in 1941 in NJ and they did have her cause of death on the cert.(coronary occlusion) due to....My other ggrandfathers death cert from NYC, 1949, did not have a cause but said it was contained in a confidential medical report filed w/ the dept. of Health. Hope this doesn't confuse matters...Did you try finding an obit in a newspaper? Paul

    2. Greetings!! Has anyone had any luck getting a death certificate for a child with the cause of death listed? My grandfather's sister died at around 13 years of age, so she has no direct decendents; however, NJ will not release cause of death to anyone other than direct decendents. My grandfather was just a toddler when she died so he knew nothing about her other than her name and approximate age. Apparently his brothers never knew much either, though they were a couple years older than he. Any assistance would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance. They were a family of seven six sons and one daughter. The first three sons Joseph, Jessie and William went south to fight with Cornwallis in the Rev. War. Subsequently they returned to NJ. The other three sons George, Thomas and John along with their sister Abigail emigrated to Washington Co. Pa. in 1787. Traces of the first three sons have been lost. Abigail lived in Morris Co. and the three sons may have lived in Morris also. I am searching Essex, Union and Warren co. also. Any desc. of Joseph, Jessie or William please get in touch. Also trying to find, without much luck, the wife of James. Do not have a first name but last name is listed as Boleyn but could have been Bollen, Bollin or Boylan. Thanks for any help. 2. You may want to check www.rootsweb.com/~istg for immigrant names. The ISTG or Immigrant Ship Transcribers Guild has been busy compiling passenger lists for many ports. Recently, I transcribed the SS Seydlitz cabin class passenger booklet from December 1922 that came from Bremen to NYC. You may not find your family names listed today, but in time they might appear. This is a great project! ---Robin www.rootsweb.com~njunion
