    3. Hi Margaret, You may already know this but.. according to the "Pierson Millenium" by Robert and Jennifer Pierson, 1997, Deacon Jonathan Thompson m. 2nd 10/10/1791, Rachel, widow of Isaac Pierson. It also says the Deac. Johnson owned 152 acres of land in Madison, NJ. Maybe there is something in a local history of Madison? happy hunting, Kathleen Pantano >From: [email protected] >Reply-To: [email protected] >To: [email protected] >Subject: [NJUNION] Thompson, Jaggers, Terrel >Date: Thu, 24 Feb 2000 13:25:04 EST > >Seeking proof of Jonathan(Johnathan) Thompson's (1734-1817 )ancestors. 1. [NJUNION] 1903 Obit
    2. Kenney, George
    3. In the process of trying to determine where my Grand Parents are from in Ireland, I'd like to obtain the obituary for Mary Casey Kenney. Mary Casey Kenney was born Aug 1843 [per 1900 Census] in Ireland. She died 14-Feb-1903 in Westfield, NJ and was buried on 15-Feb-1903 in St. Mary's Plainfield. I've had the Westfield Historic Soc try to look up the obit, but their copies of Westfield Leader were not readable. Her death Cert says she died o 14-Feb-1903, in Westfield at the age of 63 years 7 months of Dropsy. I'm hoping the Obit may shed some more light on the Kenney's Irish Past History. George W.J. 2. George-I just sent a letter in on the Potato Famine Irish to the NJUNION and I want you to read it. This is what a woman who is (she said) a certified Genealogist from NJ specializing in NJ research said to me when I inquired. I have never heard a reply like this from anyone before. Anyhow your Area of Westfield and Plainfield is the exact Parish and Locations that I'm searching my Family in. My Grandfather about 1920 was operating the Largest Grocery Store in the Westfield Area at that time I have been told by the family. So the McMahon and Kenny Family probably went to church together. 1. [NJUNION] Records for Irish Immigrants to Brunswick Area in NJ
    2. When the Potato Famine Irish Came to NJ in or around the area of 1840-50 is it true that the NJ Genealogy Societies do not consider this important enough to document as Genealogy? Is it true that there are very few records on these people? If it is not true where can I get records on these people and what type are available. A women who said she is a Certified Genealogist ( In NJ) told me that 1850 is not really Genealogy material and this is not considered an important part of NJ Genealogy. What a slap in the Face that was. I always consider everything in the past Genealogy and History of that Location. I hate to think anyone doing Genealogy would consider any Ethnic Group unimportant. 1850 is now One Hundred and Fifty Years ago. Would like to get some Replies on this. Pat McMahon Regan

    1. [NJUNION] Naturalization Papers
    2. I am attempting to obtain the naturalization papers for my grandmother who lived in Elizabeth from 1909 to her death in 1967. I obtained the index from the state archieves listing the petition number and book number but when I contacted the Union County Clerk I was advised that Union County does not have any naturalization papers and that I would have to go to the US archieves in New York City. This past week I went to the US archieves and was told that the records were state records, according to the index information. Does anyone have any suggestions. The naturalization was in 1944. Thanks

    1. [NJUNION] Meeker/Cory
    2. Hi everyone, Let's see if this can stir up any activity on the list. I am looking for information on the wife and in-laws of Joseph Cory, father of Desire Cory (b. c. 1709-1719). Joseph's wife is Mary, who may be the daughter of Jonathan Meeker and (Mary?). These families would be in the Elizabeth area of New Jersey. I'm in Massachusetts and can't find much on New Jersey in area libraries, nor does my librarian want to order things interlibrary loan from outside the region, so I'm hoping there is someone on this list with knowledge of these families or a suggestion as to what I can try to find them. Jacqui

    3. Hi Jacqui, Are you anywhere close to Boston? The New England Historical and Genealogical Society has a wonderful set of books on the Cory family. 3. Hi, My brick wall is my great grandmother, Margaret Gartley. She married Charles WEAR in 1874 at Elizabeth after immigrating from Ireland. Her place of birth was Bruckless, Killaghtee, Ireland. John and Alexander GARTLEY lived in Elizabeth, also. My grandmother had a cousin named Lillian GARTLEY, a former teacher at Battin, I believe. Other names in Elizabeth are WEAR and RITTER. My grandfather, Louis Ritter, married Mary E. WEAR, a daughter of Charles and Margaret. My RITTER line comes from gggrandfather, J. Peter RITTER, Capt. in the 9th NJ Volunteers during the Civil War. John Peter immigrated in 1838 from Billigheim, Bavaria. If anyone is interested, I would be happy to share infor- mation. 3. Okay, here goes. Joseph Conkling (1729-1779) married Mary Cory and lived in Elizabethtown, NJ. I have recently published a book on the family. Joshua Conklin (b. 1727) was probably his brother. I am looking for their parents. They probably came from Southold, NY, but that is just a hunch. Any clues? Any other Conklin info? Anyone else out there researching Elizabeth, NJ Conklins? Sheri Worthington, Ohio

    2. GFC, Did you check the churches? Was he Lutheran? St. Mark's Lutheran Church is in Elizabeth. Must have been the only one around for a while, because eventhough my Grandparents lived in Kenilwoth, they went to St. Mark's in Elizabeth. Also, Union County Courthouse is in Elizabeth. Try there for birth cert? Looked on the census that I had, but unfortunately did not find yours. Have partials for Kenilworth, Elizabeth and Sussex County(Sparta). The baptism record is just as good as the birth record..so maybe you can get that. Good luck! Grace O'Kane

    2. I have belong to many of these rootsweb.com groups for sometime now. You will find that sometimes the group will be quiet and other times there will be many postings. Just post a query or question and watch how many people will respond. I am researching in Union Co., NJ the families of HEALD, ALLEN & WOODRUFF. 2. It's been quiet on the mailing list lately but the GenConnect boards for NJUNION have been busy. Go to www.rootsweb.com/~njunion and look for GenConnect (Bible, obit, deed, etc.) and Query boards. Don't forget you can sign up on these boards to receive notice of every posting. As of today, there are 187 people who will receive this message. If you've been quiet for a while, tell us about your genealogy brick wall and see if you find any connections. ---Robin www.rootsweb.com/~njunion

    1. [NJUNION] Genealogies
    2. Alice & Gary Caggiano
    3. Hello again, I would like to offer another site to look for answers in finding your ancestors. Long before I was "internet literate" I used a pen and paper and found many of my ancestors at the Genealogy Society of the West Fields. They keep their records at the Westfield Library and are a wealth of help with all these "old" families. Now you can go to http://www.westfield-nj.com and get to their site. Don't leave the dash out between westfield and nj. When you get to the Westfield location, click on the left column.."Organizations", scroll down to Genealogy Society of the WestFields, then click on First Families, the on Genealogies. Especially check out the "Greaves Papers" and the warning attached. After the first flush of satisfaction, go back and explore the rest of the site. There is a quarterly newsletter for members and you can place a query in it. This newsletter reaches another different group of people who might have answers for you. Then go all the way back to "Organizations" and click on "Westfield Historical Society". There is a lot of history and maps there. Great way to spend an evening. Have fun, hope it helps someone. 3. Hi folks, Here is another brick wall...my grandmother, Sarah Jane OLIVER's parents were JAMES SHOTWELL OLIVER, b. 25 Dec. 1841, unknown location and AGNES ADELIA FLEMING, b. 20 April 1853, unknown location. Agnes d. 23 June 1886 in, we believe, Rahway. This info is from their Bible. I can not find a death record for her in Trenton or Rahway, nor where she is buried. We have no idea when or where James died...he apparently left the family after his wife died. My grandmother and her brother, Clarence (and perhaps another brother James), were raised by aunts and uncles. Family tradition (my grandmother) said both James Shotwell Oliver and Agnes Fleming worked for the Trembley (Tremblay?) family on their farm on the Linden/Rahway border. Gram also said her mother, Agnes, was R. Catholic, from Newark and her father, James, was Presbyterian, from Rahway. Does anyone know if St. Mary's Cemetery in Rahway will do lookups for burials? And if they do, can someone give me an mailing address for the cemetery? Thanks for any help or clues. It will be forever appreciated. Alice in Vermont
