    3. David: You mentioned that most of the Potters were up in New Provedence. I have a David Bird of Woodbridge marrying Phebe Potter, dau. of Benjamin Potter. They married in Westfield, but lived in Woodbridge. 3. David -- there were two separate Potter families in the Woodbridge area -- one, involving names like Ellis, Reuben, and the like. The other were daughters of William Potter who was hanged in New Haven in 1662 for beastility with sundrie creatures. I am descended through William's daughter, Hope Potter, who married Daniel Robinds/Robbins. William was a brother of the father or grandfather of Deacon Samuel of New Providence. Harman

He was her second husband, the first being a Laing from Rahway. John's death cert. states that he was born in Woodbridge, I believe. David P.S. What kind of beast is a 'sundrie"? Couldn't resist....

If you would like me to check census records, I'd be happy to do so. I thought the Potters were mostly up in New Providence, but this family seems to have escaped! David

    3. Have you considered checking a newspaper for the area for the obituary? I have had good luck with this method. Usually gives names of parents and survivors. Official state death certificates can sometimes be a help. Lots of newspapers are on microfilm...so you might check at local area libraries or historical societies to see who has microfilm. 3. Hi there! I am trying to find SKS from the Plainfield, Union, New Jersey area to find information on my great-grand aunt Lillian NISSEL (nee ZIEGLER). She was living in Plainfield, Union, NJ in 1969 when her sister (my great-grandmother) Ellen passed away. She is not listed in her sister Mary's obituary in December of 1976. I hope someone can help me find this elusive family member. I believe that they may have had children, but am honestly not sure. Thanks and I look forward to hearing from you. Take care. 1. [NJUNION] Emily Jordan marries in Elizabeth
    2. Sara J. Lyon
    3. Emily Clara JORDAN was married to Henry Clay FOLGER on October 6, 1885 in Elizabeth, Union Co. NJ. Emily was the daughter of Edward Jordan, a lawyer who lived in Elizabeth between 1873 to 1899, had graduated from Vassar in 1879. Henry Clay Folger had graduated from Columbia Law School com laude in 1881. According to a biographical sketch he "was steadily promoted through the ranks of the Manufacturing Committee of Standard Oil" eventuallty becoming president. I am wondering if their wedding would have been reported on the society pages of an Elizabeth newspaper?? I would especially like to know who attended the wedding. Emily Jordan and Henry Clay Folger founded the Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington, DC. They had no children so she is a dead end but I am hoping to find the names of other members of her family. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Sara Lyon
