I want to thank everyone for their responses to my message! My family was on the Greaves page. Thanks for pointing out the warning about the accurateness too. I was quite delighted to see some of the names that were listed in the Bible given by Greaves as family names, i.e. MARSH (my John Marsh), HETFIELD (my Emma Hetfield). Now I have a direction to search, I previously couldn't go beyond John Marsh Williams. Thank you once again, Michelle MICHELLE FERRETTI wrote: > Hi, I'm new to the list. > > My ggreat grandfather was John Marsh Williams, born in NJ. Their children: Sayre Smalley and Frances (Fanny) Smalley. If yuou have some birth and death dates, I would like to have them. Sincerely William Smalley Cadmus
Michelle -- assuming that Ebenezer Williams was the grandfather of "your" Abraham, his wife is said to be Sarah Marsh, born about 1727. I have notes, which I have not fully documented, that Sarah was daughter of Benjamin Marsh (12 Aug 1702, Rahway, NJ - 20 March 1733/34) and his wife, Margaret Ewen (d/o John Ewen). Benjamin Marsh was son of John Marsh and Elizabeth Clarke. John Marsh was son of Samuel Marsh and his wife Comfort _____ [often given the unproven and probably erroneous surname of "Mann"]. Elizabeth Clarke was daughter of Richard 1 Clarke [whose ancestry is unknown, though often put forth with various parents on various LDS, FTM and websites] and his wife, Elizabeth _______ [often, erroneously I believe, listed as "Moore"]. Hi to Michelle, etc.-- as a followup to your e-mail of yesterday plus Jan's helpful footnote, I specifically suggest a search that does not overlook either the Greaves cautionary note [at http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Prairie/5096/lr52.htm] or the Greaves webpage on Abraham Williams and his wife Elizabeth (whose maiden name also appears to be Williams) [at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~westfieldnjfamilies/html/fam07156.htm ]. Abraham's likely grandfather Ebenezer Williams, born 1724, appears to be a younger brother of my ancestor Margaret Williams, born ca. 1711-- wife of Joseph Magie (Megie), AFN:P242-1P, born at Elizabeth (NJ) ca. 1705. Margaret & Joseph occupy burials 1223 & 1224 at Elizabeth's First Presbyterian Cemetery, and Ebenezer (ca. 1723-1760) probably occupies burial 1404. Both Margaret & Ebenezer are probable children of Benjamin Williams, AFN:P245-JP, who is said to have been born ca. 1697 at Wethersfield, CT, and died ca. 1731 at Elizabeth, NJ. ........John (in Chicago).

Michelle, I am wondering if you may have already checked out the material available on your Williams family available through the "genealogies, Greaves Papers section" at the following First Families of Westfield site: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Prairie/5096/ Good luck, Jan ---------- >From: MICHELLE FERRETTI <[email protected]> >To: [email protected] >Subject: [NJUNION] Williams/NJ-OH-IA-CA >Date: Sun, Apr 16, 2000, 5:55 PM > > Hi, I'm new to the list. > > My ggreat grandfather was John Marsh Williams, born in NJ. Hi, I'm new to the list. My ggreat grandfather was John Marsh Williams, born in NJ. In 1836, he married Catharine Lane in Butler County, Ohio. They had the following children: Mary Eliza Williams, HenriettaWilliams, Emma Hetfield Williams and Francis Jane Williams. Catharine and Emma died in 1848. John remarried Harriet Noble in 1849 in Hamilton County, Ohio, although he resided in Burlington, Des Moines County, Iowa. They had the following children: Clara Belle Williams, Benjamin Franklin Williams, Ella Amelia Williams (married name Bergstrom), and Edward Noble H. Williams (my line). They moved to California in 1875. I believe that John Marsh Williams parents were Abraham and Elizabeth Williams. LDS's file shows a christening for a John Marsh Williams on Dec. 6, 1812, with those parents in the Presbyterian Church, Westfield, Union, New Jersey. A biography of Edward Noble Williams says that his father, John Marsh Williams, was born in New Jersey. If there are any connections please let me know. Michelle

My gr-gr-grandfather, Walter Morrel Bramhall (b. 1839 NY, d. 1913 NJ) grew up in New Jersey, around S. Orange and Rahway (according to letters written in 1906). He wrote about being in the same regiment with other Rahway boys, some of whom were still his buddies. He was in the 6th Independant Battery, NY Light Artillery. I was initially surprised that he joined a NY regiment when he lived in NJ, but it looks as though it was fairly common, with many families spread between the two states in and aroung NY City. So - if you can't find someone in a NJ regiment, it's worth trying NY. Hope this helps someone. Sandy Smith [email protected]

Janice, I am the original poster of this message and my information tells me they are in the easterly part of the cemetery. Are you researching the Hand surname? Penny
Judy, Thanks so very much but another woman has already offered. I'll keep you in mind though just in case she doesn't come through for some reason. Penny

Hi! I work in Rahway, just a few blocks from the cemetery. Give me a few days to get over there and see if I can find the stones you're looking for. I have a digital camera and can take pics of them for you if I can find them. Judy --- [email protected] wrote: > Hi list, > Could someone tell me if the above cemetery is still > there?
