    3. Sussex County Deed Book D page 444 dated 2 Feb 1801 Indenture between John BOWLSBY of Mansfield-Woodhouse and Rachel his wife, to Henry DUSENBURY of Lebanon, Hunterdon Co., merchant, for 200 or 700 silver dollars ... 107 or 407 acres and 68 perches in Mansfield-Woodhouse. This deed is rather confusing (Notes of deed book abstractor Clyde W. Downing) Apparently there are three John BOWLSBYs. The first was the grandfather of the grantor. The second was the son of the first and the father of the grantor. John the 1st left LWT dated 7 Dec 1799 in which he left to his grandsons John & James BOWLSBY who later divided the property. There was a Quit Claim Deed dated 1 Nov 1785 in which Samuel BOWLSBY and Elizabeth his wife and Thomas BOWLSBY and Sarah his wife quit claimed to said John and James BOWLSBY. It is probable that the second John BOWLSBY is deceased. The deed is signed by John & James BOWLSBY. Wit: Jacob SWEAZEY & George B. WARNE. On the same day, John BOWLSBY Jun. signed a receipt for the money. I think Samuel and Thomas BOWLSBY were brothers of the second John BOWLSBY, On 14 Feb 1801 John and Rachel BOWLSBY deposed to Judge Robert BEAVERS, (Rachel BOWLSBY was the daughter of Daniel SWAYZE (6), Barnabas (5), Samuel (4), Joseph (3), John (2), John (1). Daniel (6) had a son James (7) who was my ancestor and a daughter Anna who married Isreal DAWDY, son of James. Daniel's wife, Deborah, was pregnant with a child at the time Daniel wrote his LWT dated 9 Jan 1779, The unborn child at that time turned out to be Daniel (7) who later married Anna SWAYZE his first cousin. She was a daughter of Benjamin (6) son of Barnabas (5). John BOWLSBY and Rachel his wife later moved to Upper Canada. Israel DAWDY and Anna his wife did also. All of Benjamin (6) children also moved to Canada. Rachel BOWLSBY died before 23 Dec 1816 at Woodhouse, Upper Canada - Clyde W. Downing. Sussex County Deed Book E page 35 dated 13 Feb 1800: Silas HOPKINS Sen., Yeoman of Frankford to Hester HOPKINS of Knowlton taken in execution at the sute (sic) of Abraham BESCHERER, Nicholas DENNIS & Henry HANKINSON and sold by Charles PEMBERTON, then High Sheriff, adjoins Adam COOL, James DAWDY, James ARMSTRONG, John BEABOUT, Chandler DOUD. Now for $200, he signed. Wit: Orial HOPKINS & Benjamin HOPKINS & Levi HOWELL who on 24 Mar 1801 deposed to Thomas ANDERSON. Hope this helps, Cathy DiPietro --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free.
