    1. Re: [NJSUSSEX-L] Ora Simpson, Former County Clerk
    2. Ora C. SIMPSON was united in marriage, June 30, 1885 to Magdalena B. MABEE, a native o Warwick, Orange County, New York State, a daughter of John and Elizabeth (BODINE) MABEE, of that community. To this union was born son, Harold M., whose birth occurred at McAfee in 1886 Does anyone know if this Mabee is related to Mary E. Mabee, last wife of Abner B. Hamler (11 Nov 1843NJ - 02 Apr 1884Sussex Co., NJ)? Abner was a son of David and Amy (Drake) Hamler. David was born in 1809 & Amy was born in 1822. Abner was married twice. First he was married to Mary Jane Willoughby which was her married name; she was from NC and her Rebel husband had deserted her and their daughter Nancy. Abner married the deserted wife on his way back to New Jersey from fighting in the south in the Civil War. He also brought with him Mary Jane's daughter Nancy Willoughby who became Nancy Hamler in New Jersey. After 1870, Mary Jane Hamler died and Abner married Mary E. Mabee who collected his Civil War Pension when Abner died in 1884. David and Charles Hamler were Mary Jane and Abner's sons, with David becoming their only living son after Charles died in his teens. With Abner, Mary E. (Mabee) Hamler had a daughter, Leonora E. Hamler. When Abner and Mary Jane's locally well-known son David died in 1922, his obituary incorrectly called Mary E. Mabee his mother.
