Shohola Rail-road and Historical Society will host a civil war Train wreck commemoration ceremony at the former Barryville congregational Church, Rt 97, just west of Rt 55 intersection, Barryville NY at 1 pm on Sat. July 17, 2004. Park at McKean Gibson Real Estate and follow signs to the church on the hill. At 2:30 following the ceremony, meet at the Caboose Shohola Twp. Museum on Rt 434 Pa. Hear the song by Mickey Barnett entitled The Great Shohola train wreck featured on the All aboard Cd. The Cd will be available for purchase. A walk to the train wreck site lead by township historian George J. Fluhr will follow. July 15, 1864 a Erie train taking prisoners to Elmira prison camp in NY crashed with a coal train just west of Shohola. Both Confederate and Union soldiers are buried at the church yard.
