MINISINK FORD, NY - The Upper Delaware Heritage Alliance (UDHA) will sponsor a picnic open to the public on Sunday, July 18, to conclude the annual Battle of Minisink commemoration at Sullivan County's Minisink Battleground Park on County Road 168 in Minisink Ford, NY. This year marks the 225th anniversary of the July 22, 1779 deadly skirmish between Mohawk warrior Joseph Brant's band of Loyalists and the local militias. The Navasing Long Rifles re-enactors welcome people to visit their encampment at the park all weekend to get a glimpse at the frontier lifestyle in the Upper Delaware Valley. Sunday's activities begin at 3 p.m. under the park pavilion with a historical presentation by Peter Osborne and Mary Curtis. At 4 p.m., the Sullivan County Historical Society and the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution will host their traditional memorial service at the battle site's hilltop monument. George J. Fluhr, official historian for Pike County and Shohola Township, Pa., will deliver the keynote address. A picnic for participants will begin at approximately 5 p.m. at the pavilion. The UDHA will provide hamburgers, hot dogs, rolls, and beverages. Guests are asked to please bring side dishes and desserts to share. No reservations are needed.
