I have found clear evidence that JOHN LANCE who is buried in Hainsburg Cemetery which is on the DELEWARE WATER GAP and just seven miles from BLAIRSTOWN, is one of the two lost children of ANTHONY LANTZ - LANCE who is a grandson of HANS PETER LANTZ one of the three LANTZ men who arrived in American October 1738 The earliest known LANCE burial in Hainsburg Cemetery, just west of Walnut Valley, NJ is Elenor Lance who died April 6, 1840. Elenor's age is given on her stone, so using Family Tree Maker I find a date of birth for her as Saturday March 10, 1787. Elenor's tombstone reads "W or Wife of John Lance". The question is she a widow or a wife - meaning did John survive her? There are lots of JOHN LANCE men in the family tree so without more information I can't figure out who Elenor's husband was. There is another nearby stone for a JOHN LANCE who was the husband of NANCY. By various means I have calculated that this JOHN was born October 7, 1780 and I know that he passed December 24, 1856. His wife, NANCY, passed away Christmas Eve five years earlier, Dec. 24, 1851. I also know from the 1850 Census that NANCY was born about 1793. To make matters worse, there is no mention on JOHN's stone of a wife - NANCY or othwise. In fact I am still serching for where NANCY is buried. So far no luck. Elenor could be the first wife of JOHN who later may have married NANCY but it seems more likely to me that Elenor was a wife to another JOHN LANCE - but who? Ideas very welcome in finding more about Elenor. Lastly, just to throw another log on the fire, JOHN, husband of NANCY, had at least four sons, the eldest being WILLIAM to whom he gave in his will two pices of land - the land he ( John ) had purchased from Binyon TWINNING and a lot he had bought from Gershim Lindaberry. I'd love to have some help here as I've hit a brick wall. Thank you. Laurence Lance Seattle
