Recently my husband purchased an old postcard, postmarked Lafayette, NJ 1915 as follows: Picture on one side : Residence of Thomas W. Bently, Newton, NJ. To: Mrs J. M. Kinney East Stroudsburg, Monro Co., PA R D no 2 Message: Oct 31 Dear Brother (&) siter. I hope this finds you bouth weel I supose you got the sad news I will right to you later I have bin home over a week have bin busy see maune(sic) gilts brouk to day your letter was brom 12 to 19 befor I got it I can't tell when it was nis laid let me hear from you your loving sister E. A. S. I believe this is Elizabeth A. (Kinney) Swartswelder writing to her brother James M. Kinney who is living in Stroudsburg in 1910. In the 1915 State Census, Elizabeth is living in Lafayette, without her husband. She is not listed as a widow. Does anyone know when John Swartswelder died? Was wondering what the 'sad news' was.
