I am trying to find the birth place,( town and county) and parents of Israel GIBBS b.15 Sept 1794 in New Jersey. His birth date came from a family source, not documented. His birth place, New Jersey came from the 1850 Census Wisconsin-Racine-Caledoina where he is listed as Israel Gilles age 55, farmer, b. NJ; however, family members, wife Charlotte (WRIGHT) and 5 of his 9 living children, Mary, Lewis, Grace, Oliver and Hoel have been documented so I know that this is Israel. The other 4 children were: William, Augustus, Gilbert, and Ruth all living elsewhere in Wisconsin. First child, William was born in Villenova, Chautaqua Co., NY in 1819, as were the other 10. Two of the children died in NY before the family moved to WI. 1840 Census Israel and family living in NY-Chautauqua Co-Cherry Creek 1830 Living in NY-Chautauqua-Villenova 1820 Living in NY-Chautauqua-Hanover At some point Israel moved to New York either with his parents and possibly to the Otsego Co or Herkimer Co area or possibly directly to Chautauqua County when the Holland Land Co. began to sell their land. My challenge is to find where in New Jersey he was born, who his parents were and if he had any siblings and then to learn when he moved to New York and to where! Israel is my husband's G-G-G-Grandfather. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Martha Aney
