Greetings, I have extracted the MAPES 1832 pension applications for Rev War service. One MAPES enlisted from Sussex county: Joseph MAPES of Mifflin, Franklin County, Ohio in 1832. He was born 27 Feb 1761 in Somerset County, NJ, enlisted in 1779 from Oxford, Sussex (now Warren co.) county, NJ, served six months under Captain Cornelius JOHNSON, going to the frontier in Minisink, NJ in June 1780. No addition family info is listed. There was a large family of MAPPES from Blooming Grove (now Monroe), Orange County, NY including the sons of Henry and Anna MAPES - George E. Mapes b. 11 Aug 1762, married Experience VAIL on 1 Feb 1787 John MAPES b. 1761 served military time for father Henry, brother Henry, brother Nathan - also having brother James who served with him. There is a William MAPES b. 8 Sep 1755 in Blooming Grove, NY, relationship to above not stated. He enlisted from Walkill, NY, lived in Skantaletes? Onondaga county, NY in 1832, had son Samuel MAPES of Black River, Lorain County, Ohio in April of 1851. William MAPES died 5 Dec 1838 in Onondaga county, NY - was of some relationship to George MAPES. The Blooming Grove MAPES moved upstate into Onondaga, Chemung and Steuben counties in NY.
