    3. Obits from the Wantage Recorder, Sussex, NJ dated Friday 17 Nov 1922 Mrs. Martha A. NYCE Widow of Col. John NYCE, died at the home of their daughter, Mrs. John BROWN, in Caldwell, Kansas, Nov. 3rd, at an advanced age. She was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs.William G. ALLYN of Smith's Corners, Orange county, NY. Prentice ALLYIN came to Sackett's Lake near Monticello, NY from Connecticut, early in the history of Monticello, the first of the family name, ALLYN. Hence we infer that William C. was a relative to Prentice. Col. NYCE built the Terwilliger House in Milford, PA and died there in 1880. She is survived by two sons: John W. of Caldwell, Kansas; George M. of Mescalero, New Mexico also by her daughter, Mrs. BROWN and a sister, Mrs. Catherine HEMINWAY, of NY John O. HAVENS Died on Friday of infirmaties of old age at the home of his son Wilbur J. HAVENS aged 78 yrs 11 mo. and 4 days. He was the son of Barrett D. and Jane (SHELLY) HAVENS and married Emma L. COX Oct. 28, 1868 by whom he is survived and three sons: Martin C. of Dover; Edgar B. of Loughman, Florida and Wilbur J., near Sussex. He was the last survivor of a family of six children. He is also survived by three grandchlidren John M. HAVENS of Sussex; Dorothy E and Mildred R. HAVENS of Newton; two greatgrandchildren, Ruth A. and Louise S. HAVENS of Sussex. The deceased was a descendant of one of the earliest settlers in Wantage township. When John WILSON Sr., deeded the farm the basis of which is now the farm of Samuel S. VANDRUFF's farm in Wantage to his son Samuel, April 7, 1759 in the 32nd year of the reign of King George, it was acknowledged before Richard GARDNER in 1761 and witnessed by John HAVENS for record. We have not fully traced the record back but think from such records we have seen that John HAVENS then lived on the farm where Wilbur J. HAVENS now lives. Funeral at home, Rev. James BRISTOW officiating, burial in Deckertown Union Cem. Charles WHITE Died Thurs last week at home in Butler after a long illness aged 34 years. A wife and four small children survive him also four brothers: Joseph, of Pateron, John, Joseph and Louis of Butler and three sisters, Mrs John SCHILLING and Mrs. Daniel STRUBLE of Butler and Mrs Ray BUSBEE of Jacksonville, FL. Funeral at St Anthony's R. C. church, interment in Calvary cemetery. Mrs. Mary COMPTON COURSEN Died at home near Colesville on Sunday of infirmities of age, aged 85 yrs. She was the widow of Isaac COURSEN. Two sons: Raymond S. of Colesville and J. Colt of Butler also two daughters: Miss Minnie B., at home and Mrs Joseph HAGGERTY of Wantage survive; also two sisters: Miss Sarah COMPTON of Colesville and Mrs. Cornelius EMERY of Sussex; also one brother, Benjamin COMPTON of Swartswood. Burial in Branchville cemetery. Lester D. RALSTON Died on Monday last week at Darien in the Panama Canal zone. He was a son of S. B. RALSTON of Phillipsburg, NY and wosuld have been 37 years old last Saturday. He has been several years in Panama. His immediate relatives are in Middletown except that one sister, Mrs Alphonse HYDE now lives in Franklin. Jonathan SAYER Died Monday morning of general debility at his home in Westtown after an illness of ten years. He was one of six children, three sons and three daughters born to George S. SAYER and Emeline EVANS. His parents in their early married life, went to the state of Indiana which was at that time known as far west, locating near Middlebury where he was born Oct. 22, 1841. In April 1852, they removed to Westtown purchasing the farm in the suburbs of the village which for 70 years was his home. On Oct. 12, 1871, he was untied in marriage with Miss Sarah OWEN near Liberty Corners, NJ. Two sons were born to this union, George O. who was a lawyer in NY City, dying a few years ago and Robert E., living on the old homestead. He is also survived by four grandchildren and one sister, Jane E. SAYER of Westtown. Funeral at Presbyterian church, interment in churchyard adjoining. Abram W. RUTAN Died at his home in Port Jervis on Sunday of pneumonia, aged 74 years. He was born in Westtown, NY., a son of Mr and Mrs John D. RUTAN. He was a wagon maker and passed the greater part of his life in Port Jervis. He retired from active work in 1921. He married Jan. 25, 1865 Miss Elizabeth CASE of Lafayette, who died Jan. 26, 1893, and he married second, Mary CHANT of Port Jervis on Sep. 30, 1894. He is survived by one sister Mrs G. R. PINKEL of Sussex boro and nephews and neices. The funeral was at the late home, interment in Laurel Grove cemetery. Mrs. Edwin PINKEL and son Claude and daughter, Mrs. Emil DeSOTO and husband of Sussex attended. Mrs. Bessie NEWKIRK Died in Franklin Hospital Nov 1st of pleura-pneumonia after an illness of 10 days. She is survived by four small children, by her father, Charles GALLAGHER of Franklin and one brother, Charles T. of Butler. Her husband, Eli NewKIRK died four years ago. Since his death she cared for the little children and was a kind loving mother to them. She was 29 years old. Funeral in Franklin, interment in North Hardyston cemetery. Miss Martha Alice ROSENKRANS Passed away at half past eleven on Sat. night Nov 11th. She had been in ailing health. Miss ROSENKRANS was born 70 years ago last April in Walpack township, one of the daughters of the late Avert ROSENKRANS and Mary BUSS. She spent her early life in Walpack and then a few years with her brother, Seeley ROSENKRANS at East Stroudsburg (PA) before coming to Blairstown more than thirty years ago to live with her sister Mrs L. Milton WILSON. Devoted member Presbyterian Church, Rev. John W. WADDEKK conducted the funeral. Burial was in Cedar Ridge cemetery. Besides the sister and brother mentioned she is survived by two other sisters, Mrs Albert LANTERMAN of Mandan, North Dakota and Mrs. Sarah E. DECKER of Sussex and several nieces and nephews.
