Ann or others looking over her shoulder: I am trying to sort out my Abraham Smith/Isaac Smith of Fredon in Stillwater Township (originally Hardwick), Sussex County, from a family of Abraham Smiths in the Knowlton-Oxford area. (Actually Isaac came from Oxford in 1801-03 to Fredon so maybe my Abraham did as well, but no courthouse evidence yet.) There may or may not be a connection between the Abraham's, but that aside, I was intrigued by your inquiry on Bennet because of the intermarriage to Abrigal Smith and the child named Abraham Smith Bennet. Howell's are also in dee ds with an Abraham Smith: 1805 Bk M 1805 (FHL #959653) Levi Howell and others to Abraham Smith p 127. 8 April 1805 between Levi Howell and Phebe Howell, his wife, late Phebe Smith, daughter of Benjamin Smith, Jr, deceased, Jacob Hazen and Ann, his wife, late Ann Smith and daughter of said Benjamin Smith, Jr, dec, of Hardwick in the Co of Sussex, NJ, of the first part, and Abraham Smith of Knowlton in the County of Sussex, NJ of the second part. The party of the first part being heirs and ligates of the deceased Benjamin Smith, Jr, for the sum of $100 convey to Abraham Smith all that plantation owned by Benjamin Smith. (does not say where situated but transfers interests no matter whether specified or not) Witnessed by Ezekiel Hazen and Ann Smyth. Recorded 12 April 1805 by Jacob L. Thomson, Clk. Do you have any lineage on Abrigal Smith who married the Bennet? If may help me in my efforts and it would be appreciated. One clue, the Abraham Smith from Knowlton Township was a Captain in a Pennsylvania Revolutionary War unit and some of his land deeds use the title Captain or Major. My Abraham was a private in the War of 1812. Thanks. Dan On 1/14/07, Ann Brown <cookiebrown11@gmail.com> wrote: > > I do not have towns information. I had a Great Aunt who left me all her > notes.
