I believe the obit. sent in by Karen Wreden of Mrs. Anna Sickles, of Sparta Twsp., aged84 years is Anna Delaney Sickles, daughter of Moses and Catherine Lantz, and wife of Manning Sickles. Sussex Register- July27,1923 Manning Sickles- Obituary Sparta- Manning Sickles died at the Franklin Hospital Monday, after an operation for appendicitis, at the age of seventy two. He is survived by his wife and daughter, Ella, of Hawthorne Park. Funeral services were held from the Sparta M.E. Church thursday and interment will be in the church cemetery. Mr. Sickles was always an active worker in the church. Wantage Recorder- Fri., Aug.3, 1923 Funeral services for Manning R. Sickles, sixty five years old, were held at the Methodist Church in Sparta last Thursday. Rev. Louis Benjamin officiated. Interment was in the Methodist Cemetery. Mr. Sickles Was taken last Thursday week to Franklin Hospital, where an operation for appendicitis was held. He died at the hospital Monday afternoon last week. He is survived by his wife and a daughter, Mrs. Joseph Spangenberg of Paterson. New Jersey Herald-Thursday, Aug2,1923 Mention was made last week of the illness of Manning Sickles, of the week previous,and of his removal to Franklin Hospital to submit to an operation for appendicitis, the apparently Successful effect of the operation and his unexpected relapse and sudden death Monday forenoon. The funeral was held from his late residence and from the Methodist Church Friday afternoon. His pastor, Rev. Mr. Benjamin, pastor of the church, officiating from his house and church. Mr. Sickles was about 65 years of age and the son of the late William and Catherine (Shaffer) Sickles, was born in the vicinity of where his life was spent. In early manhood he married Miss Anna Delaney, and to them was born one daughter, Ella, both widow and daughter, Mrs. Joseph Spangenberg, and one granddaughter, survive the husband and father; also one sister, Miss Ella Sickles, of Newark, and one brother, James Sickles, of Arlington. As a man of character and integrity, mr. Sickles was a man without a superior in the town. While not a member of the Methodist Church there was not one of it's membership that was more ready to serve it in all its interest than ; was conscientious to an unusual degree, he was supposed by most of his acquaintances-to be one of its leadind members-, none doubted his Christian character . He had been a member of Lotus Lodge, I.O.Q.F.of Ogdensburg for many years and was laid to rest by his brothern with the usual funeral ceremonies of the order. Mr. Sickles was a good man in every sense of the term and has gone to his rest with the respect and highest esteem of all those with whom he associated in life.
