    3. Ann, These are from the the original copies of the Birth Returns for Hardyston in the time period mentioned. I copied them from mircofilms I got thru the LDS Church. The handwriting in not good and often there are discrepancy. For instance, in birth returns that say "from the first day of May 1850 - the first day of April 1851" you might see a birth that says "Apr 1850" - but you know it was actually 1851 because of the time period covered. There may also be discrpancies with the month of birth. As I said, the writing is so bad it's possible to make a mistake. The ( )'s indicate that I was giving it my best guess. When reviewing these records, two people may see different things. Always, with all the records I transcribe, everyone needs to be reminded that they cannot be considered "proof" but merely a roadmap. 3. I have seen a couple of cases where births were apparently reported in the wrong year. If the child was born around the spring or summer, this might happen. In one case a child was born on May 31, supposedly the last day to go on that year's return. He had actually been born a year earlier, and it hadn't been reported on the earlier return. At least that 's the conclusion I came to when I saw his death certificate with his age in years, months, and days. Another birth was reported twice, in consecutive years. The name and the birthday were the same, and I think I concluded that the child must have been born on the earlier date. Of course it's not impossible that there were 2 children born a year apart, with the first one most likely having died before the 2nd was born, resulting in his being given the same name.
