Tom, As to the obits for 1897 and 1913, where Amity, NJ and Hamburg, NJ are mentioned: - Would this be an extended neighborhood for Amity, NY a small place just across the line in Orange County? Perhaps by then the "neighborhood" extended into NJ, or maybe it was always so referenced among local? Is Hamburg, NJ in that vicinity? I can understand where it might have been referenced as "Amity, NJ" a hundred years earlier. S. Her husband, Joel Decker Sr., has been dead for 32 years.Early in life she gave her heart to God and inited with the Baptist Church in Hamburg, N.J. Those who knew her best say that she truly lived a Christian life. Four daughters and three sons remain to mourn her loss. The funeral services were held at the home of Coleman Babcock. The Rev. C.M. Sandford, pastor of the free Methodist church of Dover N.J. was in charge. A large number of friends and neighbors gathered to pay the last tribute of respect to one they loved. her body was laid in the cemetery at Sparta. Sussex Indepependent- Aug29,1913 Mortuary Record- William J. Sickles William J. Sickles, Probably one of the oldest citizens of Sparta Township,died at his home in the Amity neighborhood last Friday. The funeral services were held at his late home Monday forenoon and interment in the Methodist Cemetery. He was born December,1819, and lived his entire life time in this vicinity , was a quiet, genial well-to-do farmer, known widely as one of the most accomadating and neighborly men of this vicinity, honorable and upright in all of his transactions. He is survived by one daughter, Ella, at home; two sons, Manning Sickles, of Sparta and James Sickles of The New Jersey Herald- Thursday, September8,1904 John Sickles, an aged man who had made his home with his son, Stewart, for some time past, was found dead along the side of the public road last Saturday afternoon. He had been to town, and returning to his sons , who lives just on the border, the fell destroyer, Death, laid his hands upon him before he quite reached the house. He could have lain there but a few minutes before he was found. His funeral services were held on Monday afternoon of this week.
