    3. >From the Sussex Independent of Friday, March 16, 1923 Mrs. Lillian Curtiss. Mrs. Lillian Curtiss, sixty-six years old, widow of D. Mason Curtiss, formerly of Waseca, Minn., died last Friday morning at Linn Hospital, where she had been a patient since September 17 last, when she was stricken with paralysis. A few years ago Mrs. Curtiss left her home in Waseca and came to Sussex to live with and care for her aunt, Miss Fannie Everett, of Clove avenue. It was in the Everett home that she was stricken. Mrs. Curtiss was a daughter of William Everett and Almira C. Hatch and was born in Minnesota. When Mrs. Curtiss was about eight years old the Everett home was raided by the Indians. Her mother and little brother were slain. Her father escaped and three years later succeeded in rescuing his daughter from an Indian camp. The surviving relatives are two half-brothers, Edward L. and Guy E. [middle initial could be E or F, but another obit for her gives E] Everett, of Waseca, Minn. Funeral services, in charge of Rev. W. A. George and Rev. H. M. Herbert, were held Monday morning at 10:30 o'clock at the home of Mrs. M. E. Elston, in Clove Avenue. The body was shipped Tuesday to Waseca for further services and interment. Kirsten Saxe I found this obit in the same papers as ones for my ggguncle and thought it was too interesting not to share. -- Open WebMail Project (http://openwebmail.org)
