Here is what I have...a bit murky. Susanna Rutan b 1736 d/o Abraham Rutan and Sarah Van Gelder m (1) Julian Demarest b 1739 of Schraalenburgh in 1761; living in Paramus at that time (2) Abraham Vanderbeek at Schraalenburgh in 1790. Mackenzie identifies her mother as Sarah de Forest. Van Gelder and de Forest maybe the same person. Susanna was baptized at Hackensack Ref Ch. Abraham Rutan (1711-1789 s/o Daniel Rutan-Antje Hanse Spier m Sarah Van Gelder in 1743 at Acquackanonk Ref Ch Daniel Rutan b 1683 s/o Abraham-Marie Petilon m Antje Hanse Spier b 1687 in 1710 at Hackensack Ref Ch. He may have had another wife, Sarah Demarest. So, if this is correct Susanna was the great grandaughter of Abraham Rutan and Marie Petilon. ************************************** AOL now offers free email to everyone. It would be so much simpler if people would change the subject heading. Digger, My previous response bounced away on me - maybe you received it, maybe not. I appreciate this and will save it for my records. The only kicker here is that Susanna Rutan was born 6-7 year before Abraham married Sarah Van Gelder; perhaps he was previously married to Sarah de Forest. I have not come across such a discrepancy in Dutch records before; suspect there is an explanation, such as a type and the couple was married in 1733 not '43; but you never know. Thank you again.
