Hi, I am another descendent of the Smiths from Sussex Co., N.J. I have been unsuccessful in finding the parents of my ggg grandfather, Stephen A. Smith. Stephen A. was born, Sussex Co., N.J.-March 6, 1771. He married, at a young age, in 1788, Sussex Co. to Mary ?, who was born, June 18, 1773, Sussex Co. While living in Sussex Co., they had the following children: Sarah-10-15-1789 Adonijah(My gg grandfather)-9-18-1796 William-3-22-1798 Furman-7-4-1799 Josiah L.-12-21-1800 John Axford- 9-8-1802 Elizabeth(Obit. said was born Dutchess Co., N.Y.)-8-4-1806 Mary S.-5-1-1808 They then traveled to Dunbar Twp., Fayette Co., Pa. There they had: James Adam-5-25=1810-Dunbar Twp. Stephen-7-12-1812 Isaac W.-10-11-1813 Joseph Vandrite-1-29-1816 Robert-2-12-1817 Infant-1819 In 1824, the family traveled to Meigs Co., Ohio, where many descendents reside, today. So many of the families from New Jersey came into the Brant and Norfolk county area it seems like a homecoming.
