One of the families that were divided by the war was the Wintermute family. The Wintermute family settled in Sussex, NJ before 1745. Philip Wintermute moved to Wyoming Valley, PA with all but his oldest son who remained in Sussex, NJ. Philip built Fort Wintermoot. He and his six sons remained loyal to Britain and served in Butler Rangers. After the war they moved to Niagra Falls in Canada. Philip's son Lennard, brother George, nephew Frederick Snover fought against British rule.
